why watch overtime playoff hockey when you can simply snort cocaine and ride a motorcycle out of a helicopter

It's not going the safe route that is for sure. Something to be said for having the guts to make this type of move. Other than Babcock, there weren't many other coaches I was enthralled with, so I would say this is at least more exciting then hiring a retread.

hextall is putting his neck on the line as a virtual brand new gm. (frank), look at clarke the guy went from center ice to the front office in 5 minutes, and hired keenan. everything he says comes across as the guy having a plan, a vision, and looking for the right parts in the right way to execute it. i haven't loved every decision yet..but situations like hartnell and rinaldo...are they really THAT big of a blunder when you look at the team he inherited as a whole? not in my view. i'm going to trust this decision of his.

i totally get the skepticism though.

barry trotz coache for 93 years in nashville and didn't come close to winning Richard. why did he last that long? did he deserve another chance after finally being dumped. would you want him if he were available? over berube, sure. but otherwise? meh.

i'm just using him as an example.

mike haviland (coincidentally the brother of my midget a hockey coach) was a blackhawks assistant when they won the cup in 2010. he was being talked about as a guy with potential for a head coaching gig in the near future. he got dumped. where the (frank) is that guy now? is he suddenly a moron?

nobody has the answers.

Outside of Babcock, most of the guys out there have a big flaw or two.

I think Babcock is expecting Pegula to do what Snider and Homer did after 2006-07: Get a high pick, toss a poopload of cash and other assets into immediate improvement and make a run for the PO's

- Jsaquella

which is not a crazy expectation either. it's also close enough to detroit that maybe his family just stays there and he goes back and forth some.

I think the fact that Hextall has the guts to put his neck on the line with this hire is what I like the most about this. Hextall inherited a fairly large mess. The cupboard wasn't bare, but he's got some players that he's stuck with. He can't just wave a magic wand and fix it. I'm willing to give him a chance. Even if Hakstol doesn't work out, I wouldn't necessarily would be willing to give up on Hextall.
He's remained pretty patient, the fact he didn't go out and chase rentals was a pretty encouraging sign.

This goalie for Anaheim is a friggin stud. I didn't realize he was this good.

The one thing I dislike about OT is the referees swallowing the whistles. I get you don't want to call something borderline, but to let egregious penalties go uncalled isn't good for the game.

I hope Chicago's treatment of Kimmo makes him come back for another year. He can be our 6th.

that's exactly right. i loved that they were sellers. he's also stated that just because he's got a college coach now doesn't mean that any of the prospects are going to be fast tracked. and i believe that.

do guys like gost and morin have a shot? absolutely. but they'll have to earn it, as well they should.

Yep! Hextall doesn't seem to be a knee jerk, reactionary type executive. That is a good thing. His time in LA served him well in that regard.

I've only seen him a handful of times this year. I really had no idea until these playoffs how good this guy was. I'm feeling confident the Ducks can beat the Rags if they play them. If TB doesn't get the job done.

let's hope the 3 crossbars the ducks have hit in OT don't haunt them on this TMM penalty.
