I guess I don't get it then that he would put them into a bidding war with Sabres. Why didn't he go in and say, "Kenny it's going to take $4MM for me to stay or I'm going elsewhere." Did Wings initially balk and now raised their offer? IMHO he wouldn't be going through all of this to play hardball with the Wings.

His comfort in Detroit and the comfort of his family are a huge part. He may take $1 million less a year to stay. $4 million is a hell of a hometown discount.
