I hope Babcock enjoys his time on that plane, since it's the last time for a while he'll see two wings with Leaf logos doing their job. - rmiethaner

losing this to the leafs is a big kick in the nuts
gotta call it like it is - homiedclown
The worst case scenario. If he stayed in Detroit you could say 'Well, he loves it where he is, he didn't want to leave.' In this case he is leaving to our biggest rival with a worse pipeline than us. |

His inability, or, if you believe certain sources, outright refusal, to make in-game adjustments is the main reason I sour on him. - buffalofan19
I really cant believe that.

Sure it sucks, but youre not actually worried about what he does in toronto are you?
They are still a mess. A big one. The sabres look to be passed the "mess" phase and have come out of it with a generation player as well. I actually think this is borderline comical based on all of babcocks big talk about winning and not rebuilding.

(shrug) no reason to think that. He is probably the best coach but they need a whole new roster.

i kinda liked Mclean all along. No superstar pedigree, just always liked him from a far and feels like it might be a good fit. |

He was an AHL coach that was arbitrarily promoted over Therrien(the other most overrated coach in the NHL). The best team in the league fell in his lap with along with a Stanley cup. I watched the Pens games in the following years and the guy just doesn't get it. He can't put players in the best place to succeed. - Buffalo--Sabres
100% agree and feel the same way. |

Let's bet on that because Toronto is a terrible franchise probably worse off out of any team in NHL right now. |

I'm not guaranteeing Toronto will win a Cup or anything, but to suggest his career will go up in flames is a little far fetched. It was similar to the claims that Edmonton would "ruin" McDavid. When you're great, you're great. And Babcock is that. |

"He was an AHL coach that was arbitrarily promoted over Therrien" - Ok.. Ever hear of Jon Cooper?
"The best team in the league fell in his lap with along with a Stanley cup." - That team was BADLY under performing prior to his arrival. He earned that win.
"I watched the Pens games in the following year and the guy just doesn't get it. He can't put players in the best place to succeed" - The Penguins are and have been the most over rated team in the past 6 years. Every year except maybe this season, everyone predicts they win the Stanley Cup. Sure as poop, they're a better version of the Flyers. Two elite players and a bunch of other guys who can't get it done. Ray Shero beat the snot out of that team and was consequently fired for it. They have performed very similarly with Mike Johnston at the helm. Hell, they've been worse. |

LOL at the league for being worried about buffalo raising the salary bar for coaches, then have their most prized organization fuvk everyone by giving him 5 million more than the next highest paid coach - ieetbred
If Toronto gives him the dual role of coach and GM, then I would expect the pay to be higher.
With that being said, I hope it is both roles. Nobody can handle those two jobs by themselves. |

Understand the viewpoint, disagree with the sentiment. He wanted what he couldnt get here, and decided he his better than what this organization has going for it.
I think when eichel smashes his teams down 6 times a year, it will become apparent by year 2 that he made the wrong decision. |

Now we're either stuck with Murray's puppet whose AHL team hasn't done poop lately or likely overpay a guy who could only win one Stanley cup with the best NHL roster in the 2000's.. |

It's probably more the former than the latter, but it's well documented that he doesn't adjust in-game very well. |

When was the last time a coach won a championship with a mediocre roster? I can name a long list of teams that won because the goalie got hot or they had stars but none when the coach won it. I'm not putting the guy down (I wanted him). I'm just saying that they have the worst roster in the league and he has no background in personnel. |

Not only finished last two years in a row but lost the lottery two years in a row have a prospect who doesn't even know yet if he wants to back to friggin college over playing here and now lose all credibility to FA's without the flair that Babcock would have brought us. |

a) Yea that sounds horrible. One cup. Pshhh who wants just one.
b) They never had the best roster. They had Crosby and Malkin. The rest of the roster was S*%T
c) His goaltender s%(T the bed more often than not. |

Eichel will bring credibility soon enough.
Toronto is the team that tanked with all star caliber players on the roster and came out with the 4th pick. They will be making runs to 8th place for the next 8 years.
No way babcock guides them to bottom 5 next season.
