Bergeron....ok, while I disagree he's anywhere near as good, I'll accept their play resembles one another. But Kopitar it totally different in most ways. He's a franchise #1 center on 2 cup winning teams, who's also been nominated for Selke trophies and other awards.

I would love to see what Kopitar could produce in a system that is not as offensively stifling as what the Kings run.

Add to that if the NHL cracked down on obstruction and called all penalties again, and I think everyone would see the large difference between he and O'Reilly.

I would too, for what the Avs would consider an extremely underwhelming trade offer. That contract blows.

It doesn't change the fact that the kid has demonstrated - at 24 - throughout the entire season, that his contributions are very similar (disregarding the style of play) to other premier players whose contracts are like the ones he is rumored to want. Many people seem to agree with you that his contract is ridiculous.

I'd hate to think that contract amounts are determined based primarily by style of play

O'Reilly did not dominate this season. In fact he got hot in the last 20 games or so. He was on pace for a sub 45 point season at the All star break or close to it.
