I was hoping to give Blashill a chance in DET, as he is the one behind most of the youth development. In DET, many of the younger players were passed over for Clearly, Samuelson, Bertuzzi and Weiss who apparently was Babcock's request.

I cannot nor will not predict what will happen in BUF, but I will leave some advice... Most of Babcock's success in DET had to do with Lidtrom, Zetterberg and Datsyuk's prime years so I would gauge expectations by way of Babs personal stats... Reality is he is something like 6th in active coaches with wins, your not paying him to win Olympic medals but he will bring stability and credibility but is super hard on players... This will be interesting because of the big contract and the higher expectations it may bring.

You can call Wings fans bitter, but let me tell you a bit of a secret in Motown, arguably the best organization in hockey since the early 90s.... Mr. Ilitch is old school and treats his people like family so when they look fort greener pastures and somewhat embarrass the Wings owner in the cross hairs, its over. The relationship with Federov was never the same since hevsigned an offer sheet in 98' and this was similar with Babcock's willing to part ways so easy duevtonhis ego, his self worth or whatever it was. Also the standard was set when guys like Shanny, Yzerman, Lindstrom, and Holland himself had easy negotiations because theybknew they were a part is something special so Wings fans get irky about guys who believe they are biggervthan the team... Thevrukevin DET is No one makes more than the top player, same rule applies for the decisioner maker in Holland who has 4 Cups since 97', and 2 other Cup Finals.

I will close with this this... Congrats Buffalo, thanks Babs but I am really looking forward to a new voice, and it took this process to figure that out from a DET standpoint, but can't saupy anything negative about BUF gettinghim as we will try to use the 3rd round wisely.

PS - something tells me the Wings brass are quietly happy about Buffalo being so aggressive about getting Babs too.

I think he would have been a great coach in Pittsburgh for a few years, but I'd hate the thought of signing a coach for 5 or 6 years. That's just too long.

I do believe he'll make an instant impact on the Buff's performance.

Just a thought. How do you think Gary, the Wirtz family, the Jacobs, MLSE and Ed Snider are going to feel when they realize that Pegula raised his tickets prices this year to qualify for revenue sharing, then he turns around and uses that money to overpay a coach so that it will cost the Flyers, Leafs Hawks etc more for a coach in the future.

Pegula may think he is smarter than the rest of the owners by doing this but Sabre fans may want to prepare themselves for a few more "No Goal" calls and some bad luck in the draft lottery or horrible schedules in the future.

Gary and the rest of his boys cant be happy about this
