There is some suggestion that he expects a faster rebuild than the rest of us, but it really is not the kind of thing that Jero, and you, are basically saying is occurring amonf Leafs fans... nevermind the "lunacy" that Bloatsie thinks is going on. - Aetherial
The only point i've ever made is this team is much better off than it was when Fletcher was in charge in terms of assets. Whether that's prospects in the system or assets to trade. Unless the new X-box 5 (wish I could remember what the game was they play) have no movement clauses like the Muskoka 5 did. |

I'm glad you've come to us, Bloatsie. I'm happy to explain.
General narrative around the hockey world two days ago: The Leafs are an effing joke - nobody in their right minds would go there. It's a black hole.
General narrative around the hockey world today: generally regarded as the best coach in hockey, all it took for Mike Babcock to agree to coach the Leafs was $50 million.
You can't see how that's better? - Atomic Wedgie
Basically, The Leafs fanbase bought themselves a bigger toy than the other fan bases could afford.
Boo hoo.

Hold on a second. You can't compare stella to corona. Stella's 5.2%. Great beer if your purpose is to get drunk. - bloatedmosquito
Stella is no different than any other pissy lager brewed by any other large brewer.
If you served Canadian or Blue in a fancy Stella glass*, no broad would know the difference.
Corona is basically Stella that has been left out in the sun too long, so it has lost its carbonation.

*The only reason Stella is popular in Canada is because they shipped those fancy glasses to bars and restaurants, and ladies love drinking out of them.

sure. it can be 5. theres no set time frame. i'm not trying to kick the fanbase when it's down, but if you haven't been paying attention, it's not rocket science.
shanny wondered if we have the stomach to take what's coming
babcock "there's pain coming"
point is, no one is saying we've hit bottom and are on our way up. The worst is yet to come (wait until we dress AHLers because we ship out all or most of our guys for picks. - clark_griswold
I don't mind that the worst is yet to come. I can handle adding a 2-3 more top 5 picks. I can even handle 4-5 more top 5 picks. |

Most of the pints I drink are above 5% …I don't drink them b/c they're high alc. only b/c they just happen to be delicious. Nickelbrook and GLB are putting out some of the best ale's I've tasted in years. - The Law
I'm a big fan of IPA's... many IPA's happen to also be above 5%.
(As an aside, both the "Mad Tom" and "Twice as Mad Tom" from Muskoka brewing are excellent) |

all i said , and have been saying since around january, is it will be years (5-7) before we are even respectable. WE've been crap for years when we were trying to win, now we have to strip down that crap, draft, develop. it's not quick, it's what is realistic. |

i'm with you. if you are an older fan, you've seen multiple attempts at a quick fix. those usually set you back years, sometimes decades.
i'll wait as long as possible. i don't want to JUST make the playoffs; i want to build a cup contender. hence, it will take longer |

i never said contender , but i think we are looking at a lottery (bottom 3-5) for years. here's the first one i can think of. if you haven't seen ppl claiming it will not take 5 years, you haven't been paying attention.
Maxiums Aurellius this morning, after i said it will take 5-7 years:
"This is not the 1970-1980s anymore.
Current league is very very close, with teams winning cup one year not making playoffs next year WITH (virtually) THE SAME PLAYERS TEAM.
tank to get 3 top 5picks in consecutive years is absolutely no guarantee for good playoff results 5y later, neither is trading away first rounders a guaranteed formula for bad results 5y down the line.
There are various ways how to become competitive and to win, and various ways how to end up failing. It was NEVER an option for the TML organization to have a 5y tank program, NOBODY would accept that and it WILL NOT happen (independent of the fact whether it woudl have been Babcock or an OHL coach being head coach for TML 2015-2016)" - clark_griswold
None of us know how long it'll take b/c there is a lot of luck and good/bad fortune involved. Sounds like DP and PK are still likely on the block.
15/16 - patchwork of youth and vets finishing low and drafting high.
16/17 - probably the same.
After that they should have added 5-6 really good young pieces through the draft and trades and Babcock has had 2 years to help the roster play better hockey. Maybe they're ready at that point to take a stab at some meaningful UFA's. There's a real chance that the 'expectations' start to grow at that point.
It's a moving target …we're all guessing. But I don't foresee 5 years in the gutter before they start to improve. |

You think that the .7% difference in alcohol makes any difference?
Hell, if your goal is to get drunk, throw some James ready 5.5(5.5% alcohol! Omg!) in the cooler until it has as little taste as corona or Stella, and have at it. It's like half the price.
If you really want something to get you drunk, look at some Belgian beers or IPAs. |

Of course, the leaf's future is definitely brighter today than it was two days ago. Cautious optimism by the fans is definitely acceptable.
But does the general narrative change when a team tries to buy respectability instead of earning it?
I speak from experience because the team I support did the exact same thing.
