I saw it recently and was unimpressed. You?
- 1979AD

I saw it last week. What did not impress you. Some of the snipers in the show had an issue with blinking, and only keeping one eye open.

I just can't see a GM who would have the sufficent autority to fire Babcock while I could clearly see Babcock getting his GM fired if their relationship isn't what was expected/wanted.

Unless that GM ends up being Shanaham himself.

- Scabeh

Again, you're treating Babcock as if he's some random, run of the mill coach. He's not. He's arguably the best coach in the NHL, at worst top 3. Why would anybody want to fire him aside from trying to appease primadonnas like Kessel and Phaneuf if they don't trade them and they get tired of working hard?

I'm just messing with ya.

Signing Stamkos is always a good idea.

But it's amazing how things have changed from a couple of weeks ago since Babcock came on board.

Clearly optimism is back in Leafs land.

A graph of our mood will show an upswing beginning with the night the Bolts eliminated the Habs

Are you going to agree to take the head coaching job in Buffalo, and then turn around and sign somewhere else?

Because I'd love to see that Buffalo reporter crap his pants again.

- Atomic Wedgie

Very likely.

They offer me $50m; I say "YES!!!!"

I go home and tell Mrs. Fernandez we're moving to Buffalo; I call Murray back and say, "Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and take another offer. Sorry bout that"

Scotty Bowman was fired.

And I think my whole point is exactly the opposite of the bolded.

I'll take option C

Get good management and coaching in place. (DONE)

Draft and develop your players, and build a winning culture in the "prawcess" (few years away)

- TheThrill

Nobody in the Leafs organization has proven capable of drafting the players they need to build a championship team in untraditional locations. It was nice for Babcock to have 7th round wonder picks but the Leafs aren't good at that.

Tank it out a few times, get the best players available and go from there.

If he's related to famed Russian WWII sniper Vasily Zaitsev, I'm in!
- 1979AD

HEY! wait a minute.

The Vasily Zaitsev thing was MY idea from the Flyers (?) thread a couple weeks ago!

Very rarely was he fired and when he was it was after very, very long periods of time.

4 years in St. Louis, 8 years in Montreal, 7 years in Buffalo, 2 years in Pittsburgh which he left voluntarily and 9 years in Detroit where he retired willing.

Just watched the Babcock press con and wow does that man look intense. As a side note is the Toronto hockey print media not the largest collection of disgusting chuds?

Really!? Swear on Babcock that I didn't see that. I don't think I've ever been in the Flyers thread.

Mostly because he had such success on the teams he was on.

But that wasn't the point anyway, the point is, to me, the future GM won't have the power to fire his own employee so how much of a GM will he really be? Especially when you add Shanahan to the equation.

But hey, that's only my opinion.

Nope. No need to intentionally lose. There will always be good players available organically, and this team as-is won't win even if they try to. So why incorporate a losing culture?

As for the bolded, Hunter has been here for less than a year. Shanny fired 16 scouts a couple months ago, they just hired a new head scout and director of player evaluation (named just today)

For a guy preaching patience, you sure want immediate dividends from these guys.

that's a GM job in name only. Brendan Shanahan is the GM in Toronto. he hasn't even tried to pretend he's not. whoever they bring in will have no authority over the coach or the assistant GMs. that's not a GM.
- DoubleDown

What I think, is they'll have Shanahan overseeing the whole thing, Dubas at the analytics/player evaluation, some other guy (Pridham?) negotiating contracts and overseeing the cap, and Hunter taking care of the draft and scouts. If they hire someone else, it'll probably be to work with Babcock on how to improve the roster via trades.

So in essence, 1 President/GM, and 3 assistant GMs.

If that makes sense.

I didn't even consider it on the technical level. I guess I was expecting a gripping movie about the effects of war on the soldiers, like The Hurt Locker, but it didn't grip me at all. Found it kind of cliché and predictable.

Perfect sense, and I agree.

Not very much. It's the Shanny and Babs show featuring Hunter and Dubas. I'm good with that.

No organization is good at that.
6th / 7th round picks that pan out as 1st line players are pure luck.

Firing a coach is like 5% of a GM's job and they have the best one in the league so that 5% is actually more like 1%. It's your opinion but it doesn't make much sense.
