It doesn't mean you're safe from being fired from your job, or banned from an establishment, or having other people call you out for whatever you're saying.

He apparently asked Nash (the top ranked player in the draft) where he wanted to go and Nash said "I want to go number one" and MacLean knew to pick him then...what? WHAT? That's the big story?
