i don't think so. we'll still be terrible for years. this just ingrains a long term system in place.

Shanny was quoted this morning as saying 'the rebuild will take as long as it takes'.

Worth every penny just for that.

This must mean we have a pretty solid plan in place to entice him here. How exciting

The salary doesn't mean poop to MLSE. Imagine how much they'd be spending on the roster alone without a salary cap, even with revenue sharing.

they wipe their ass with this $ .

It's pocket change. Glad we got our coach.

Maybe not.

If the general narrative on Phil is that he has all the talent in the world but a bad work ethic, wouldn't the world's greatest coach be able to fix that?

Shouldn't we at least give it a year to see if it can be fixed?

Well that rebuild was fun for 2 months wasn't it?

This will be the worst decision to affect this franchise in a long time. Just as Burke wasn't the right fit in 2008 Babcock is not the right fit in 2015. Sure he's a very good coach, but what exactly is the point of a rebuilding team having a coach of this ilk? This is another TML fast track to a rebuild.

- Mr_Smokey

Not at all. 3 years of instilling a proper structure to the kids for the rebuild, 5 years of guiding them to the promised land.

Or...mold the team into a winner while coaching young players.

Shanaplan 2.0

- LeafMan

Which should have been the plan no matter who they hire as coach.
Well good for the leafs..they finally got the big fish.

I know, luckily it doesn't count on the cap but it will cut into the revenue sharing check, probably why Bettmen is pissed.

It sets the groundwork for your team. Sets a way this team does business.

This is what the Leafs have to do. Over pay and spend where it doesn't count against the cap.

This in my opinion. is step one of culture change.

To me this is the most exciting part of the hire. The man had options, and comparable dollars/term. Positive day for MLSE. If they do in fact end up hiring Boucher as an asst, then Dubas' quote about seeking compensation for organizational assets they develop is also in motion.

The Leafs will be terrible if they move out Kessel, JVR, Phaneuf... if the keep these stiffs because Bcock likes them then we're stuck with a mediocre team instead of a lousy team.

Babcock's looking at the roster like:

- you're gone
- you're gone
- I like you
- you're gone
- you're fat
- you've got potential
- you're Swedish
- Mantha?! What the hell are you doing here?!
- you're so going down to the Marlies
