This is a good day JFJ. stop being a douche. - Lee Denault
That's exactly my point; this team still needs to get worse before it can get better and hiring Babcock will stop them from getting worse.
Disagreeing with you doesn't make anybody a douche. Just because you're over the moon doesn't mean I have to be. In fact, calling me a douche for disagreeing with you is quite douchey in of itself. |

ok ok, Gardiner? - MCharisma91
I don't see why not... although he was terrible at the WHC.
im slowly losing faith in Gardiner.. if not lost all faith.. and he is roomates with Rielly..
I thik the sooner you get Gards out of the equation we will see Rielly become the captain i think he is destined for. |

I assume Babcock was told that he would have ultimate decision making abilities on the players.
For development purposes, the rebuild model is to not rush prospects into the NHL. Therefore, Nylander, Brown, Leipsic, and Rupert will most likely stay in the AHL, while older players like McKegg, Leivo, and Carrick move up to the NHL or are let go.
Will be interested to see the player decisions that are made |

Bingo.
I'm guessing Babcock would want the situation with 3 and 81 clarified before he rolls into camp. |

c'mon guys... seriously.
When McDavid arrives in Edmonton, Ben SCrivens doesn't become Carey Price - and Schultz doesn't turn into Doughty.
The team that will play for Babcock come October isn't somehow magically become a playoff team - not happening. Given that at very least one of Kessel, Phaneuf will be off the roster.. they aren't going to be better - they will likely get worse. - BorjeFan4Ever
depends what they are traded for, i think the picks and prospect route is now of the table |

Him and Shanahan have a history. You really think he wasn't sold on Shanahan's plan and brought in to be a part of it? You think it's more likely Babcock said, 'ok I'll take the job if you end this rebuild nonsense and let me win a cup with this core of underrated and misunderstood players' and Shanahan said 'ok, you win - (frank) my long term plan for this team.' - 1979AD
Babcock is hardwired to win at all times and at all costs. The firesale and the tanking require to give him the core he needs to become a winner isn't going to happen because it means losing, something Babcock won't do.
I hope they blow the team up and have a firesale but I see the odds of that drastically drop now. |

i was excited when shanny got the approval to nuke it. it's just a matter of time...i am a patient man, 5 years, 7 years, i don't care. build it right. i've been a leaf fan too long to see this opportunity wasted. i get the sense the impatient fans are the younger ones. a shortcut can set back the franchise for years, if not a decade |

I doubt he has ultimate control over trades.
Really really really doubt it. He'll be part of the committee.
Notice they didn't name him GM, either. That seat's still open.
Might wind up having too many cooks in the kitchen again. |

I doubt Babcock took the job to watch all his best players get traded and have nothing to work with.
New rules still give the lowest standing team the best odds at the best players.
The team might be young but they don't have enough high quality young players to make it worth while.
Hiring Babcock has come 5 years too early. - JohnFergusonJr
Relax mon, it's all about a culture change, Babcock won't let phil float around like RC did without ever sitting him. I do believe he brings accountability... And he's in it for the long haul which Shanny expects it to be. Enhance your calm john spartan... |

he's won a cup...olympics, CIAU, etc. he knows how to run a good franchise (Detroit) and how to poope all over one (Toronto). He's a patient man and will want it built properly. $6.25 million a year has a calming effect on one's patience, weird but true |
