That list is still void of any kind of elite talent like Ovechkin, Toews, Doughty etc. They might have solid prospect depth but the prospect ranks are far from being the envy of the elite teams in the league.

JVR is to the Leafs what Nathan Horton was to the Bruins.

Doesn't make sense. There's no compensation for signing coaches with expired contracts.
- 1979AD

Correction. His contract ends on July 1st, apparently. Hence why the wings had to give Babcock the permission to talk to other teams.

i didnt look that much into it. but youll find stuff on it if you search it.
- Lee Denault

Babcock is under contract until July 1st or whatever so the Leafs have to pay compensation to Detroit for permission to talk to him.

hes a good manager. IMO

doesnt take a Phd to manage a ball game.

- Lee Denault

Makes poor choices to play, like sitting martin when he's great against certain pitching, or pulling pitchers at the wromng time, or keeping them in, managers make a big difference in Baseball, IMO he isn't very good...

And what if the guy we grab at 4 is an elite talent? And who's to say Nylander won't be elite? Or Rielly? You draft elite talent over time, and sometimes you stumble on it without even knowing.

Did you guys know it was almost Tyler Johnson for Ben Bishop and not Cory Conacher.....

I heard earlier that it was contingent on him signing anywhere. If you ask for permission to speak to him and he signs, you pay a 3rd. No idea if true but read it earlier.
- markmark

you are correct. it was an insurance move for the wings. smart too.

The whole reason why the Leafs got to sign Babcock this early was because the Red Wings made him available at the cost of a 3rd round pick. Or did that change?
- JohnFergusonJr

It didn't change

A 3rd sometime in the next 3 years. But, according to you, the Leafs do nothing with any picks beyond top 10 anyway, so what do you care?

You didn't think Horton was significant to their 2011 Cup run?

He's a ufa, so no need for compensation no?

- burn

the leafs had to sign something saying they agree to a 3rd as compensation for Det granting access to talk to him now

in baseball, looking at wins and losses is pretty close to pointless

How else do they decide which teams make the playoffs?

you are right, but im not banking on anyone outside of willy and rielly..and it doesn't have anything to do with them being high picks.

i love leipsic's game, but he's a longshot. Love brown's game but i've gone on ad nauseum about my opinion on him. i hope i'm wrong.

everyone else is a depth player even on the marlies, let alone the NHL.
