I'm not sure why "he isn't what they need". Just because you are in a rebuild you don't want a bad, or new coach. No matter what, you should always want the best coach available..

Detroit has a very good coach in Jeff Blashill in Grand Rapids. If MB stays, Blashill will get an NHL job. If he goes, Blashill will be in Detroit, and the wings get a 3rd rounder for MB.
