The intriguing question is do the Leafs stop here. What is to prevent them from using the same kind of economic clout to scoop up the best talent evaluators and scouts, administrators and management minds from around the NHL. If you are going to pay twice the going rate to get the coach you want, why not line up an all-star team off the ice as well.

Which is exactly what they should do. All of this money that they're spending, outside of the cap does two things. It beefs up their scouting department and deprives the dregs of the NHL more revenue sharing money. I'd rather spend their profit on making this team better, then spending it to prop up teams like Florida and Arizona.

how long can we wait to give the 3rd pick? hopefully we can give it later on so that it won't be in the 90 range but more 100 range.

true fans like ourselves should be happy. i'm more worried about the average joe leaf fan who throws their jersey on the ice, boo's at every game, or wears a paper bag over their head. we all know that it will take 3-5 years to turn this ship around, but those schmucks think with babcock coming in that we are guaranteed a playoff spot next year.

What worries me, is that Babd!ck is the wrong coach for this team currently. He'll cause our draft positioning to be more dubious, because instead of a top 3 pick, it'll be around 10 or 11. He'll also cause management to reconsider the total tear down and make them speed up the rebuild. This team needs to bottom out for a minimum of 3 years. I'll bet, that once they've divested themselves of the core, they'll go on a shopping spree and bring in UFA talent or talent from teams in salary cap hell. We'll just do what we always do, and spin our wheels at the gates of the playoffs.

They may lose a few spots in the draft due to good coaching, sure. I'm sure that'll be offset by having a good coach that can teach players good habits though. Would you rather have a young player learn from Babcock or some random coach?
