I just don't think Babcock's interest getting Phaneuf as an extra piece for a play-off bound team means he wants to keep him here. You can re-assign roles all you want, Leafs aren't going anywhere for a while and Dion is more valuable as a trade.
- Canada Cup

Or maybe he wanted Toronto purged of Phaneuf before he got there.

Ever think of that?

I wondered in the Ek thread if maybe they might hold on to Kessel and Phaneuf. Give Babcock some time to see if he can make Phaneuf look better (behind a better TEAM defense) and make Kessel play a little bit 2 ways.

Babcock might be able to help drive up the value of those guys and the cap might go up again making a trade a little easier.

I think kessel and Phaneuf have value, but it definitely was diminished to a certain extent by the epic collapses and the pathetic second half this season.

My guess is that Dion is gone. Less sure about Phil. Might depend on the return

I think most coaches love to think they could pretty much take any team/players and make them competitive. At least, that's the type of mentality/confidence/arrogance that makes a coach successful.
- Pecafan Fan

I think that mindset/attitude may be the most valuable thing he brings to the Leafs.

Let's face it, he doesn't have super-secret-ninja X's and O's.

Well, it was pretty obvious last season that the general attitude of the group was the biggest problem with that team.

Bad attitude, no heart, and I think they disliked each other as much as we disliked them.

Love the narrative that the leafs swooped in last minute and grabbed Babcock. weren't they the first to speak with him after drw eleminAted? Didn't they go to the worlds to talk to him?

Just cannot see it. Michael Babcock doesn't strike me as being stupid. Also, Shanny has the final say in this. I'm positive Shanny wants to move Dion and Phil.

And there's nothing more important in having that in place at the start of a re-build. I've thought all along that getting a good coach now was a key move

(frank) facts man.

This is the Leafs we are talking about. Make something up that shows them in a bad light and stick with it.

My personal favourite at the moment is, the league should step in and not allow Toronto to pay Babcock so much.

They're out, they're in, they're out, they're in, they're out, they're in.

Time to fire up the hub

Sadly the latter is probably bound to happen. League will likely make a case of some parity bullpoop.

You need look no further than the Habs.

They have a couple stars, one superstar, and the rest of the team is very mediocre. Yet, they won the east through hard work, attitude, and the whole team buying into a system, and playing like a team.

Until Shannahan gives me reason to think otherwise, I believe the plan remains the same - just with a really (frank)ing good coach.

But he has no experience, so I'm worried.

So does Jessel stay with the team or not? What could the return be on Phil Jessel?

I still can't believe Burke traded for Jessel.

marner is a bean pole

and oh.. of course.. since gilmour, a hall of fame centre, was so talented it MUST mean every small C moving forward must be at the same skill level

jesus (frank) stee.. if i wanted to i could name 25 failed small prospects for every good one you can come up with

i just dont care tho.. the leafs will draft another kadri.. you guys will go ape poop driving the kleenex stock price (that reminds me, invest in kleenex and hand cream stock) and then that same kleenex will be used to wipe your tears up.

- Dozzer

Kadri (DoB 6th of Oct 1990):
2006-2007 KITCHENER RANGERS-OHL 62 7 15 22 (16y old)
2007-2008 KITCHENER RANGERS-OHL 68 25 40 65 (17y old)
2008-2009 LONDON KNIGHTS-OHL 56 25 53 78 (18y old)
2009-2010 LONDON KNIGHTS-OHL 56 35 58 93 (19y old)

Marner (DoB 5th of May 1997)
2013-2014 LONDON 64 13 46 59 (16y old)
2014-2015 LONDON 63 44 82 126 (17y old)

Consider these numbers; Marner basically doubles Kadri's production at same age.
Then reconsider your opinion, and tell us whether you still think Marner is 'another Kadri'.

Nothing wrong in trading for Kessel. The mistake was in assuming that the Bruins would get a draft pick in the 20's in return.

he is not gonna change his opinion, he has been saying it all year.
Marner at 17 is superior to Kadri, and even Max domi at 19.

not many players get 126pts in their draft year and then turn into a bust.
another year in junior and he will probably be around 3 ppg

But, and this will cause a lot of debate, I honestly do not think that team is very close to the ultimate goal. I'd pick teams that finished below them in a playoff series.
