Big game Rick.

Kadri (DoB 6th of Oct 1990):
2006-2007 KITCHENER RANGERS-OHL 62 7 15 22 (16y old)
2007-2008 KITCHENER RANGERS-OHL 68 25 40 65 (17y old)
2008-2009 LONDON KNIGHTS-OHL 56 25 53 78 (18y old)
2009-2010 LONDON KNIGHTS-OHL 56 35 58 93 (19y old)
Marner (DoB 5th of May 1997)
2013-2014 LONDON 64 13 46 59 (16y old)
2014-2015 LONDON 63 44 82 126 (17y old)
Consider these numbers; Marner basically doubles Kadri's production at same age.
Then reconsider your opinion, and tell us whether you still think Marner is 'another Kadri'. - MaximusAurelius

Love the narrative that the leafs swooped in last minute and grabbed Babcock. weren't they the first to speak with him after drw eleminAted? Didn't they go to the worlds to talk to him?
Last minute. - burn
That narrative is about them coming into the negotiations last minute. And negotiations ares aid to have only started Sunday. Who knows if it's true. But the Sabres thought they had a deal on Monday night apparently. |

The commentators really ripping on him last night for not going to the net, unlike small forward Tyler Johnson. |

But, and this will cause a lot of debate, I honestly do not think that team is very close to the ultimate goal. I'd pick teams that finished below them in a playoff series. - walshyleafsfan
The Habs are a unique case.
On one hand, they are/were very close and could certainly be called legitimate contenders.
On the other hand, I feel like they squeezed every bit of production they could out of that roster. They had the best goaltending in the league and were healthy for most of the season.
So, it is tough to know how close they are. I feel like they need to make improvements, obviously, but the improvements need to be pretty serious and they run the risk of changing the successful (mostly) approach the team used this season.
They really were close, but also deceptively far away from a cup.

I agree with your point, Kadri and Marner are not in the same convo.
But you need to compare them in thier draft year
Kadri 78 points in 56 games 1.39ppg
Marner 2.00ppg
Marner compares to Seguin/Hall at the same age.

The story this morning is more likely. The Leafs were never really out of it, just quiet about it.
They waited to see what other teams would offer before making their own serious offer... once they knew what they were up against.
It is not tough to imagine Shanahan sitting back knowing that he had the green light to beat or match whatever was out there and telling Babcock to give him a final call before signing anything.

Percisely. And that is the point. Obviously the leafs had been there all along, no? They flew to Detroit the second he was elimated, they spoke to him at the worlds. Only butthut whiners saying they swooped in last minute. |

Like with the state of this team, we just need good players at every position.
I do think we are weaker in terms of prospect pool at defense than we are up front, but frankly, they still need everything |
