I hope both stay.

I have a feeling that if they are going to truly implement a draft and develop philosophy, they won't move as many people as we think they will this year.

Most likely, they'll keep some of the bigger contracts on the team until a group of prospects is ready to replace them. This would help the big contracts like Phaneuf and Kessel get moved as there would be less term on them, which teams would be willing to take.

I agree 100% with you, with the exception of Dion and Phil. I think due to the player's, fans and media, those two are untenable situations. I think that Phil will start the season as a Leaf but won't finish it, Dion won't start the season as a Leaf.

I don't think though, they trade every single player age X or more for draft picks though. This thing will be 4 years long anyways, plenty of draft picks to build a successful core of a team.

The third isn't necessarily this year. I believe the Leafs have the choice of that third being one of the next three drafts.

If they believe they have a deep draft this year, and with a higher order, it's almost a second, then they can choose to trade a pick from one of the two drafts after this one.

What position do you honestly think Babcock can coach this Leafs roster to (sans Kessel and Phaneuf)?

You also have to take into account two teams below the Leafs (Buffalo and Edmonton) are now apparently otherworldly. Even if the Leafs are better than 2 other teams from last year like New Jersey and Carolina, they will still be the 4th worst team.

I'm not saying Kadri is a Datsyuk but he was the only forward last year buying in an trying to play a two way game. I actually thought his defensive game and faceoffs took a massive step up last year.
