Yesterday BUF fans were on here calling the Wings fans bitter.... How goes the battle today Sabres nation? - BooBoo997
Meh,
I wanted him, sure, the guys a good coach. But being realistic, a lot of other teams wanted him also. We placed our bet just like everybody else and Toronto came out on top, good for them.
But Babcock isn't the only fish in the sea and if he wanted a significant amount of power in player/personnel decisions which looks like Toronto gave him, then that can only be a bad thing down the road. The coach is the coach and not the G.M. and he shouldn't have power to tell his boss how to do his job period.
I do hope it works out for both clubs because I really love the rivalry. I guess time will tell.

i know
to me Toronto and Buffalo are two loser franchises.
Leafs havent won anything in 50 years.
Sabres has hit rock bottom and are still there.
Money cant buy everything. Leafs fans know this well and Sabres fans are just finding this out. |

Edmonton seems like the real winner here, getting their guy signed before the Leafs deal was announced. You think Babs might have thrown McLellan a bone by advising him to hold off on signing for a couple days. Bar has been raised... |

Make no mistake about it, I WANTED to see Babcock as the coach of Buffalo. However, if the details are accurate I remember thinking a few things mainly last night:
1) If it really is about control, how is that going to work? I mean could we potentially be looking at a schism between GM and coach down the road? What would that look like?
2) Expectations. Next year, because of this the Sabres are playing with house money. The expectations of the Sabres + Babcock are significantly higher than the expectations of the Sabres + Coach X. I mean the only equivaelnt I can think of in terms of a hotter coach wanting personnel control (and I can only think football really) is Parcels or Holmgren (when he went to Seattle). Without Babcock the Sabres are playing with house money.
Yes this is the stage of acceptance of the consolation prize, but it may be a blessing in disguise. Time will tell. Early predictions, just because of the current state of the Leafs, Babcock doesn't make the full term, heck even to the 5 year opt out period.
But, if he rebuilds it and turns the Leafs into a power house, that guy will be REVERED. Well beyond what he is.
I have NO problem with him using the Sabres offer to increase the Leafs offer. Any one of us would do the exact same thing in our own industry. Numbers aren't so big because 20K people don't buy tickets to what a fat dude like me do IT work for a food service distributor.
Only about 15...... - gcomella34
This. It's a business, I don't get all the feigned outrage. I'm sure all player agents do the same while negotiating on behalf of their UFAs, if not they aren't doing their jobs...

This should heat up the old QEW rivalry. Just another reason to hate those pretentious Leaf fans.
They act like they invented hockey. Hmm, the last time the Leafs were in the Finals was 1967. Good luck with that Babs. Can't wait for his first meltdown with the media in TO.

and this is butthurt.
the sabres are 0 for 45 so far in the NHL. not much to brag about there.I get a kick out of the guys whose teams havent ever won the cup, 40-50 years in the league, bringing up 1967 for the leafs |

This is a Butthurt blog if there ever was one. Everyone knew Babcock was exploring all options. This is how it happens. You meet with teams , see what they have to offer and play them against one another. It's not greasy, players and agents do it every summer. Buffalo chose to get in on it. Edmonton and Philly chose not to.
Garth, if you didn't get yourself so worked up and optimistic you wouldn't be so dissapointed. |

It's okay coming from fans of teams that won a cup or 5 tho, right? |

1967 is correct. When exactly did the Sabres win the Stanley Cup? Finals? Oh, yes, the finals. Like Rickie Bobby Said. "If you ain't first, you're last" |
