Carlyle won the Cup that Babcock couldn't...
Or the glass half full would be Carlyle won the cup on the back of the team that Babcock built (coached). - 1970vintage
Carlyle walked into a great situation with Getzlaf and Perry. He's no genius for sure.
Babcock should have been given an opportunity with those guys.
Doesn't matter now anyways. |

On a non-hockey and non-flagging note, the last episode of the Late Show with David Letterman just finished in the Midwest by me, I don't know if they they air that show up in Canada, but it was pretty fantastic and its sad to see one of the pioneers of the late talk show retire Hopefully Colbert can do a great job from here on out |

They do.
Just ask Gillis and Aquilini after game 2 of the 2011 cup final...they had it all figured out...

Day 2 and I am already sick n tired of all this Babcock sh1t. I sure hope this doesn't go on all summer. Leafs will still be a bottom 5 team next year, but we will hear everyday I am sure how Babcock is worth every penny |

It makes you yearn for the days of 4 channels on TV and no interweb.
It's going to be an awfully long summer. |

That presser in Toronto, you'd think the leader of the free world just landed in Ontario
Like that Babcock just said "I don't wanna just make the playoffs, I came here to be involved in a Cup process".

Historically, the leafs always overpaid players in an attempt to win cups. Didn't work out.
The leafs overpaid to get one of the best GMs (supposedly) at the time so they can win cups. Didn’t work out.
Now the leafs overpay to get one of the best coaches out there (supposedly) in another attempt to win cups. What do you think the outcome will be?

It takes a certain mentality, vision and willingness to build a team the right way. |

They sure are pretty tight lipped about everything, I think JB likes being on the road and out of the pressure cooker. |

The Wester Conference is flush with some great young players right now. Trevor Linden & Jim Benning, along with the scouting staff, had better start drafting some great young players or they're gonna get left behind in a big big way!!
A couple top five picks would do wonders for the franchise going forward. |

Bob Hartley
Todd McLellan
Darryl Sutter

Willie Desjardins - VanHockeyGuy
This is solely based on how the rosters are at this time:
Hartley (6): Calgary takes a slight dip due to no longer being a surprise and being an outlier and teams adjusting to their speed/forecheck system.
McLellan (4): McDavid makes them better and McLellan's a good enough coach to get the kids to buy into playing proper defense, but unless they fill their holes in their lineup, specifically in goal, they still don't get too far out of the basement.
Sutter (5): LA starts to decline as their team has cap issues and their role players who did the heavy lifting like Toffoli and Pearson ask for huge raises and Kopitar/Brown/Doughty all get a year older.
Boudreau (8): Anaheim still is head and shoulders above the rest of the division and wins it easily again.
Desjardins (5): More than likely that the Canucks, Kings and Flames fight it out for the wild card/2 and 3 Pacific seeds. Pick your poison as to where they all fall.

Not sure how the next gm is going to work out either.
That team is going to have to consistently suck to get in the right drafting area no matter if the team is expected to lose, there will be expectations to put on a good show. Don't think fans will be happy. We're sucking for the future.
Is the next gm going to make as much money as the coach? have the same clout? Who gets fired first?
It will be interesting to see how all this plays out. |
