Dat Russian factor: http://prohockeytalk.nbcs...-from-playing-in-the-nhl/ - Nucker101
How about a posting system similar to Japanese baseball players? Since he talked about "the payers people come to see" I think the only issue here is a payday for Russian hockey powers-that-be |

Benning's comments about Jensen were likely also made to help motivate him. Jensen knows what kind of player he WANTS to be, but JB is suggesting that isn't the type of player he is capable of being at the NHL level.
So, stop trying to be the sniper that you clearly won't develop into and learn the defensive and physical side of the game that will enable you to become a solid bottom 6 forward. Or bugger off. |

Aside from Benning wanting to "recover a pick", I don't think we'll see much activity from them. He should try to deal Matthias if he's not going to sign. - VanHockeyGuy
Nobody will give up anything for the rights to Matthias. With the window for negotiating with players ahead of free agency there is no need to pay for early negotiation rights. |

he had his chances and he didn't take advantage, its unfortunate but not every 1st round pick pans out, - SRam19
That is the norm in Vancouver. Only one in Gillis's 8 years did our first rounder work out for us |

It's going to be interesting to see how active Benning is. Matthias is going to want more than he's worth so it should be bye bye time. Richardson is never healthy anymore so bye bye there as well. As much as I want Burrows/Bieksa/Higgins gone tough to say whether it will happen before TDL. One of Lack or Markstrom needs to go so really maybe we will only see a few roster spots available (Matthias/Richardson) even though we should be opening up close to 5 spots. - LordHumungous
I think you need to find w way to keep both and move Miller even if you buy him out. |

But it does seem like the canucks have more than their fair share of 1st round duds. If it wasn't for the twins our 1st round drafting record would be disgusting.
I think someone showed earlier this season that if the canucks just picked the next available ranked player they would have done better than they historically have.
What's the point in having a scouting department? Just pick the next best available player. Odds of success would be higher. - bloatedmosquito
Check out the graph in this article:
http://www.sportsnet.ca/h...ng-value-nhl-draft-picks/
If you're average 1st round pick is around 23rd, the odds are about 50% they will play over 100 NHL games. The drop off after the top 10 - 15 is pretty drastic. |

Unfortunately, we all need to just get used to Miller being here for the next two years. He isn't going anywhere unless we can convince the Sharks to take him.
I'd say it's highly likely that Lack is traded at, or before, the draft. |

Yeah that's exactly what Aquilini wants to hear from Benning. "let me get this right, you want me to spend the money I made from 2 home playoff games to send another goalie away?.....you're fired" |

For Lefty and anyone who loves the WHL, this is a good read, it's an interview with a WHL scout and the prospects in the upcoming draft.

Another guy who thinks Carlo will be drafted too high so clearly it's not just the stats guys who dislike him as a top 25 pick. |

I think most of Vancouver is not seduced by Carlo size, most of us have targeted other prospects that we are hoping for |

Let's just hope Benning isn't, he's the only one who matters. Well, Delorme too apparently... |

For those too lazy to read/click
- Says Barzal and Provorov are top 10 pick talents
- Likes Pilon's skating/skill/size but there's question about his determination and intensity
- Favourite prospect from the WHL is Nick Merkley, sees him as a poor man's Sam Bennett. High end speed, skill, vision and plays bigger than his size
- Seems to really like Austin Wagner as a 2nd round pick, 6'2 with speed/skill and can forecheck well(some people at HF who watch the WHL say he's really underrated as well)
- Very high on Noah Juulsen, an aggressive/mean defensemen with skill
- Also like Ryan Gropp, but he's more of a perimeter/skill player
- Other later round picks he likes are:
Keegan Kolesar
Adam Musil
Tyler Soy |
