But it does seem like the canucks have more than their fair share of 1st round duds. If it wasn't for the twins our 1st round drafting record would be disgusting.

I think someone showed earlier this season that if the canucks just picked the next available ranked player they would have done better than they historically have.

What's the point in having a scouting department? Just pick the next best available player. Odds of success would be higher.

Seems that way....if you go off central scouting, more often than not they are pretty close, in hindsight. Of course there's the odd surprise every year that everyone misses in the 1st round....as well as some busts.

Well, I was just responding to your comment "I could see Bieksa traded and Franson picked up , even though some on here would be against it". There was no mention of Jason Botchford, ya dank . Now, owe up to your statement, ye beeyatch lol

So, what are your real thoughts on this? would you consider picking up Franson in favour of Bieksa?

I guess one has to weigh the intangibles.

Franson get us younger on the back end and that is the moniker. Right Hand shot which we need and can work the PP. Has had 30+ points 2/4 past seasons on real bad Leafs clubs with no support. His TOI/PP time was dropped dramatically in NSH so his NSH numbers are skewed. Big Body back on D who is fairly mobile. His -27 rating also comes from the players he was surrounded with as well.

Bieksa:

Won't fight anymore and is injury prone. 14 pts last season and has had only one 30+ pt season in the last six years. Massive defensive liability now after watching last season. Was handed his hat by a 19 year old Ferklund.

Basically, any Franson-style player would help us over Bieksa at this point.
