He put up respectable numbers in your system. With Irbe coaching him, he'll be an ace. |

Anyone's an ace with Irbe coaching them. They leave and all the sudden bam, they suck. It's kinda funny.. it has to be more of the product of the system (" ") Nolan put into place last season, or the poopty system they get put into after they are traded. |

They parked the bust for 90% of the game under nolan. Gave the goalies a major advantage, once they were dealt to teams actually using some sort of offensive strategy their numbers plummeted. |

Hey how about trading with the Leafs. Hodgson and the Buffalo 2nd rounder for Lupul and the Leafs retain 750K? |

He's got an NTC, and after his comments about the city, I doubt he'll be waiving. |

Nolan's "system" made sure there weren't a ton of odd man rushed or 2nd chances. We gave up a TON of shots, but our goalies weren't standing on their heads. I have a feeling we will see a drop off even with Irbe still here |

Would anybody consider trying to get Jaskin out of STL? They have all kinds of depth at RW, and they needs picks, don't they? |

Living in B.C., I get to see a lot of the Canucks. Lack was really solid for them when Miller went down. Actually, in my opinion he played much better than Miller through the course of the year. Unfortunately Benning remembers the younger (and better) version of Miller and now they are stuck with him for another 2 years @ $6 million per. You can't have that sitting on the bench and nobody would touch Miller at the price.
Lack is also a great on/off ice guy and very well liked in the community. Plus he is itching to be a #1. I would swap the 31st for Lack if the opportunity presented itself |

I would, but it depends on what they do with Oshie. They may want Jaskin long term but I'd certainly try. |

Yep, Id throw offers at him and Toffoli and see what works for us. They'll likely just settle for a short term option but you never know. |

I agree, but i think they'll be better defensively next year as well. SV% will probably drop but i don't think it'll be by much. |

I didn't read (reed) all the comments, but from what I saw most people were ignoring the important part of the blog. Semin would hold down a top-6 spot for a few years while Baptiste, Bailey, and Fasching develop. If the price is Cody Hodgson and maybe a 3rd I'd make the trade all day and trust your new coach to get Semin going. |

I wouldn't mind it. Especially if you're in the ROR is going to cost too much camp, which I think you are, a guy like Sharp or Semin who would be cheaper, from a trade asset stand point, would improve the top-6. |

From a Canes perspective. I admittedly don't know a lot about Hodgeson, except that he was a highly touted prospect that has kind of disappeared. Many Canes fans are not huge fans of Semin, I am not one of them. Now that those disclaimers are out of the way my initial reaction is no because it would be sending a proven talent for a guy that's overpaid for more term, even if it is less money. Semin was coming off wrist surgery last year and has committed himself to improving his conditioning this summer, with Eric Staal. We in Carolina have seen what Semin can do with Staal in the lockout shortened season and I'm one of the few that thinks he can re-accomplish that. If I'm the Canes I want something else coming back like a mid round draft pick or some salary retained, mainly since Buffalo can afford it. The Canes lack top-6 forwards, but have a plethora of options in the bottom 6 and I don't think sending a proven top-6 talent for another third liner would help the Canes unless a change of scenery, turns Hodgeson into a top-6 forward too/again. That said it's one of those trades I could see being win-win, but the risk is greater for Carolina, which is why I would like a little extra.

Some salary retained? Ya not in a million years bud. Semin is in his 30's. Hodgson is 25. Hodgson's still growing as a player. Semin has reached his peak and is quite literally falling face down that peak.
Hodgson a 3rd liner? Lol ok. The guy is easily a 2nd liner on many NHL teams. If Semin is a top 6 then so is Hodgson. CoHo had a setback season this year due to one thing and that is Nolan and his horrific coaching style. He and Nolan never got along. Just because he had a setback this season doesn't mean he is a 3rd liner. |

Yuck...
You want to add a 3rd into that deal? No thanks. Hodgson will bounce back and make a lot of you naysayers look stupid. One bad year and he's thrown under the bus. Yet on the other hand you have Semin who has never actually lived up to his contract. |
