It's been done before. Remember the conditional Islanders 1st round pick? - awildmudkip
That was in a trade, not part of the compensation for successfully signing an RFA to an offer sheet.
The answer to his question is no. |

6-10 as in top ten players over the last decade.

my mistake! I just sorta joined in. how's everyone doing today? Good, I hope. Hitchcock will keep losing in St. Louis, so we have that going for us. |

It's Jeremy White vs. Greg Wyshynski on Twitter today. - buffalofan19
They are both effing idiots.
I do kind of agree though that since the Sabres lost the draft lottery I have heard a lot of well i'd rather of had Eichel anyways.
The goal was McDavid, Eichel was the consolation. That is and how it has always been.IE) Finishing 30th, which they accomplished.

Part of the convo earlier was just trading for him rather than offer sheeting him. |

The goal was to finish last to guarantee one of them.
20% shot at McDavid
100% guarantee to land at least Eichel. |

Agreed. There were a few people that did say they would rather have Eichel, but coping mechanisms have increased that number greatly. |

Can we lottery protect that pick for next year (say if it's 1 through 10, the pick moves to next season)?
If not, with where Buffalo will likely finish next year, I would rather have the pick, especially if it's a top 3 pick. - kingcong39
It's possible to trade for Saad too.
21 plus Zadorov might get it done.
The Hawks didn't hesitate to trade young players before
Ladd was 25 I think and Byfuglien was around that age |

This!
It wasn't all about McDavid. It has been all about McEichel.
Last place guaranteed it. We needed to get one. Eichel was like this amazing 6 course meal. McDavid would have been the extra dessert.
We all hoped to get McDavid but we knew we were getting a franchise changing player if we finished last |

If Chicago is going to walk away from an offer sheet from Saad, I can't imagine they'd get more than the required compensation in a trade. |

Current compensation for Saad is a 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick. Just throwing it out there. |

For a $7 million offersheet?
You can't just offer a player "market value". 99.9% of the time the current team will match it. If you really want to land an RFA, you have to overpay. |

We threw that terminology around here when a certain individual with not-so-soft headwear threw a hissy fit about how poorly Tim Murray was treating Ted Nolan and how hoping to finish last was dishonorable. Hence, "Dishonor for Connor" was born here. |

6 mil was the original number thrown out for an offer sheet.
4.5-5 mil was the rumored bridge deal.
7 mil was thrown out later. |

5.5-6 makes more sense with all the intangibles. But let's be real. He's playing with Toews and Hoss man. Not to say he's a bad player, his production is just inflated. Not justified for 7M a year, really. |

This team is deep enough at defense that moving Zadorov won't leave the as big of a void as people think. The only player that would leave a noticeable hole is Ristolainen. |
