So I'm looking at the Blackhawks line-up, their top players, and they really only have two highend selections on the team in Toews & Kane. Saad was a second round pick, Duncan Keith was a second round pick, Seabrook was a late first round pick, Hossa and Sharp were traded for….I really think you only need a couple top picks to turn poop around. |

Seabrooke is a bit old to build around, no?
And why do u need Lucic when you have Kassian? - Jeropotato
Seabrook is only 30 and in his prime...prob 3-4 solid years left and he is probably as close to a Norris Trophy quality D as we would get to at this time. One can build a solid foundation of a top 4 D around that.
Kassian? I like him but he may be a lost cause. Lucic will give a TON of consistency in the toughness dept where Kassian has shown us nothing more than being reckless and wishy washy 80% of the time. |

I'm sure this has been discussed but did anyone hear Oshawa coach D.J. Smith refer to Cassels as the heart and soul of the Oshawa team?
That's the best news I've heard about a canuck prospect in years.
Is he another Gillis era pick? - bloatedmosquito
Exactly what the Canucks need I'm tired of Swedish pressers and excuses, they are easier to swallow when the guy talking just had his teeth knocked out. |

Funny. That's why I said Gillis era.
Nice to see there are a few surprises in the cupboard. Hoping we are finally getting a decent youth core assembled. Let's hope these young players get a chance sooner than later on the big club and not stuck in a perpetual cycle of 'development'. |

Yup. If the canucks aren't going to get a top 5 pick anytime soon then fill the roster with guys who leave it all on the ice. Intense and relentless type personalities are what I'm looking for.
It would be a nice change.

That means trading or not making the playoffs. I don't see this owner allowing the team to not make the playoffs. Linden and JB already confirmed this.
Who do we trade for a top 10 pick? |

Their goal is to make the playoffs but if there is an injury or just a bad slump, who knows. I don't wish an injury on anyone but they do happen.
I think I am being argumentative because I do agree with you.
If we are getting that top 10 pick through a trade, unless it is at the draft and it is some crazy package of players, it will be for the following draft where a team makes the trade for a playoff run and then unexpectedly miss the playoffs.
I am not expecting a top 10 pick anytime soon. But maybe a pick later in the first round, who knows. |

Lots of these trades sound unrealistic, but it all depends on the teams, their needs and desperation.
Who would have guessed that Pens/Stars trade some years back - Neal for Goligoski?
Dallas I guess must have been desperate for a high end d man and over paid... might have been looking for a while and finally bit the bullet.

Those trades are pretty rare. Plus you can't predict stupidity unless it's a very rare case like Mike Milbury. |

Agreed but we still haven't acquired enough extra picks/prospects to build a deep prospect pool and also haven't had that true bluechip prospect who has elite NHL upside. People keep preaching patience but I don't see anything other than mediocrity and "no-man's land" on the horizon. The vets on this team aren't crappy or good enough to really benefit the franchise. |

I'm glad the shine is off JB. More realistic conversations can now take place.
I wonder how long it's going to take for that to happen to babcock. |
