Hamhuis is fine as a mentor, the guy is well respected, a true pro and can still play a high level. I'm not paying a top prospect++ for a mentor...because that mentor won't have much talent to teach after you get him. That defeats the whole purpose.
Plus the truly good players don't need to learn from an elite player to reach their potential, they just need good veteran pros around. Guys who work hard on and off the ice and set a good example that way. You don't need all-star vets.

Agree hammer is still pretty good example but fading rapidly.
And since MNGT has stated not to go full rebuild you gotta give to get.
You still need to surround the kids with winners and vet players that come from a winning atmosphere like Seabrook does. All stars? No not quite but attitude and atmosphere are huge for the kids moving forwards...both of which we have severely lacked the last while. I'm not sold on Hammer being 'that' guy.
