I think I am looking at the future fine. Everyone here wants to trade a bonafide NHL goalie for a second round draft pick that may one day make the NHL . In two years or less when the game passes Miller by, hopefully Markstrom can step in , even though he has failed on three different occassions.
Hell of a plan - VANTEL
I never said a second. Mid to late first. Or Lack a 3rd for a for San Jose 9th overall. Take Provorov if still available. |

Don't see that happening. History of late shows teams don't give up first rounders for goalies. Schneider and Varlamov are two rare occasions. |

Something's gotta give....would you agree? Miller, very difficult to move, eating his salary is a non-starter, FA wouldn't allow it IMO. Lack is a legit starter on a aging team going nowhere. Markstrom has all the tools to be a quality NHL starter and he's never tutored under an NHL veteran goaltender like Miller, plus, he's never really been given a shot with proper guidance.
Do you honestly think the team will be in a much better position with Miller/Lack or Miller/Markstrom heading into April...if they even make the playoffs? The difference is what, five to ten points for a declining team with zero chance at winning in the post season.
I really like the idea of acquiring a 2nd round pick, multiple if possible, to draft some dmen. |

For the record - if Benning can move Miller for a third round pick...I'm 100% onboard, just don't see it though. |

I think Miller /Markstrom is a recipe for disaster . Miller when he came back from injury let in 14 goals in 3 games. He looked shaky as hell in two of the Games and it was apparent he was not fully recovered. What is the extent of the damage . He is not young and if it gets reinjured Markstom is your main man and wow.
Something does have to give but only if it makes sense. Lack can carry this team Markstom can not and you are one tweak away from finding that out.
Markstrom Lack makes sense to me for the next 4 years and cut your losses with Miller |

So we need room for 2 young players next yr
In
Dank
Hank
Dorsett
Horvat
Vey
Sven
Bonino
Kenins
Vrbata
In limbo
Higgins
Hansen
Burrows
Kassian
(Think I'm missing a couple)
Out
Mathias
Richardson
Kids
Shink
Grenier
Virtanen
McCann - Bieksa#3
Pretty much spot-on.
Matthias and Richardson gone is hopefully a slam-dunk which would leave two spots minus the goaltender shuffling. I'm hoping that Virtanen and Cassels are given every opportunity to make this club..and one of them pulls a Horvat. If one or both of Cassels and Vritanen don't make it we have plenty of players on Utica that need to show some effort and step up and steal a spot. |

Somebody posted something on FB. Apparently there was a small earthquake in Oregon or something. And it cause the west coast to shift. Leaving the island as a hot spot for a severe earthquake. |

I think the mindset of style is changing . Virtanen is a bull in a China shop . Cassels and McCann can play with a bit of an edge too. I still hate our current D . I would move everyone with maybe the exception of Tanev. I would start bringing in specialist on the D. You can see by the way Benning drafted last year and his trades, he is looking for more size and toughness. - VANTEL
Agree and I'm sure Benning will address it. He can't be happy with our size and 'toughness'. The old core were given one more opportunity to make the playoffs and make a run and having made the playoffs with that roster was impressive enough, but like you said we are nowhere near built for playoff success. So now it's plan B.
Recover picks and draft properly. And get the goalie thing solved. I'm not sold on Lack but he is the best option out of Miller/Markstrom/Lack right now.
And I hear you on our D. Brutal and we so need to move past the Edler/Hamhuis/Bieksa era and it needs to happen sooner than later. I still like Hammer but it's time. Building from the golatender out has been a recipe for success of many western teams and once we are solidified in goal for 4-5 years we need to stabilize the D if not even before we make a long term goalie decision.
Once we surround Horvat, Virtanen, Cassels, and a few others with proper talent we will be on our way. By then the Sedins will most likely have retired or just sign one year deals to play on the third line here. All players from the Luongo era need to go minus the Sedins.

I agree with most of this. My only point is Canuck fans should start preparing to say thanks and so long to the twins also. Maybe one more year |

Move 31 and 23 and try to get in the 12-15 range.
Maybe Werenski or Zacha?
Truth is there is a ton of prospects I like at the top of this draft. There is only one guy who is gonna go high that I wouldn't want. Lawson Crouse. I simply don't see it. If he's available at 23 then kool. But I'd have no interest any higher. |
