That'll make at least two of us. I don't get the love Franson is getting on here. If we could get him at $3 million then go for it. But you know he's going to command at least 4.5-5 million and someone is in fact going to pay him that.
Franson hasn't showed me anything that jumps out at me - and no, he's not the quiet stay at home defenseman either. He's just been unimpressive, is all. Frankly, I feel he's a step up from Sbisa but that's about it.
I do not want Franson on my team and I don't get the interest he's drawn - Zogg
I'm definitely not a Franson fan by any stretch but at 4.6 I would have to think twice about it.
He has the offensive tools that this team needs from the back-end and he does have size and tends to rack up the hits. That's why he draws interest, there are very few D getting 200 + hits and 30+ points.
He also has some significant question marks to his mobility and defensive abilities. His Possession and SC +/- are quite bad as are his traditional +/-.
Essentially he is Sbisa with scoring touch and more physicality but without the skating ability and the same poor defensive play....I would take that player at 4.6 than Sbisa at 3.6 any day.
All this is a moot point though because Franson won't be signing for 4.6.
I doubt he signs for anything below the contract that Niskanen got which was 5.75 over 7 years.

Sven is almost a given to make the team. Grenier would bring a bit of size, is he physical?

Just did a rough calculation on #Canucks goalie Jacob Markstrom's even strength GAA during AHL playoffs: 1.17 - hillbillydeluxe
He is strong on the puck , not really a fighter but hard to the net, he will replace Matthias |

I knew Franson was not tough, I liked his shot from the point. Sanguinetti is Franson2.0 - VANTEL
He might not be tough but he certainly hits....not that I put a lot of emphasis on the number of hits a player gets, he definitely hits a lot. He had 153 in 55 games as a leaf. Sbisa had 151 in 76 games.
He had 282 the season before, and 145 in the lockout year.
I definitely believe that the volume of hitting is overrated and generally means that you are chasing the play but there is also a correlation between the # of hits and the willingness to be physical.

I would laugh if Markstrom became our # 1 for many years. Then we could laugh at those idiots like SenCanucks troll that laugh and ask what did we get for Luongo - VANTEL
Watching him play at the AHL allstar game I was impressed with his positional play
Having said that he has nothing left to prove in the AHL ...he has to prove he is an NHL goalie ...he has had good to great AHL numbers for years but hadn't been able to translate his game to the NHL ...this off season will be very Interesting to see which goalie is moved |

I feel the same about Sbisa becoming our #1 D not so I can laugh at Nucker just because I want him to pan out. We will be lucky if he ends up a quality top 3. I will consider him a successful signing from JB if he turns out a top 4. |

If he doesn't we get a high draft pick win/win |

When he played this year, his rebound control was weak. |

Dreger is an a$$hat. Lack will bring the most return. I think this is a situation were market will decide as there will be a lot of available goalies soon. |

do you realistically believe Sbisa will become a top 4? because I can't even see him making the 3rd pairing and I feel like it would be a miracle if he did so. I know he seems to be a bit of a whipping boy but there's just no way around it, he is a poor player and if he manages to keep himself in the line up that will be an accomplishment in itself. You just can't teach skill or skating and his hockey sense is nothing to write home about either.
I hope he proves us wrong, though, as he's still only 25 and has a chance to (hopefully) further develop into a solid number 6/7 d-man |

He's got what van needs in the top 6. Seemingly what they wanted from Kassian. |
