He'd be a top tier #3 guy only because he didn't generate offense, no worse than that.
A) Either use contribute to use him in a shutdown role and try to build a more offensive other top 4 pairing
Or
B) Play him with an offensive top 4 dman on a top pairing - Nucker101
Asking Tanev to generate offence is like asking MacKenzie Stewart to play offense. Sit back grab the popcorn and be ready to wait a long long time

Fixed
And I'm not asking him to play offense. He's great at what he does.
Anyone who wants him gone and think he's easily replaceable needs to find a new sport to watch. |

He was part of a soft D . He is part of the problem. You want to change my opinion then WIN - VANTEL
Honestly how do you rank Hjalmarson and Brodin in terms of Dmen in the league?

Tanev is solid - he can't be everything to everyone. I don't care if he plays a safe game the results speak for themselves. Put it this way, I would take Tanev over Franson every day of the week and twice on Sunday |

Hjalmarson is a stud
Brodin (will hopefully) become a very solid 3/4 defenseman <<< achh, my bad, I thought for some reason you are referring to Brendan Dillon lol (senility sets in, yes) |

The thing about Tanev he is a very good defender. He has a strong positional game but all in all he is mostly just a defender. He won't make opponents pay a price , or lead the rush with an end to end rush. He is part of the first pairing with another player who is as creative as a 12 year old. Maybe our best defenseman Hamhuis is very much like Tanev, a very good defender who is positionaly sound. Our bottom three D Core are basically AHL players.
This tells me with this lineup that you will be chasing most of the night. You won't generate or intimidate but instead they are going to frustrate , so you may as well turn off the tv and Masterbate .
I don't mind Tanev as a 3/4 but the rest need to go |

Brodin is already a very solid 3/4 IMO, I believe he plays with Suter and they form a legit top pairing. |

3/4 Dmen not 1/2 - VANTEL
2/3*
Brodin is Minny's #2 dman on a good team and Hjalarmsson is considered #3 in CHI on an elite team. |

A first pairing has to generate scoring chances and results. Between the two of them they have to figure out how to do it. If your first pair are just defenders then that will dictate how your night is going to be |

As blinded as you claim others are about Sbisa , you are the same with Tanev. You defend him like he is a top 20 Dman in the league.
I would gladly trade everyone of our Dmen in a blink of an eye. This team is not built for playoffs. Your boy Tanev looked just as rattled as any other Dmen during that calgary series - VANTEL
I gotta agree with Nucker, Tanev is solid. It's not his fault that the entire roster is embarrassingly unphysical. You listed a while back all of the different attributes that your ideal D core would have and I believe safe, positionally sound with an excellent first pass (I might be paraphrasing) was top of the list. Is Tanev Subban? No. But he is a hell of a good component and as depressing as it is, probably our best D. |

I agree. That's why I suggested he can only be on your top pairing if you have a good PMD that isn't a liability defensively like Suter/Brodin in Minny. Or anchoring the 2nd pairing with a guy like Edler in a shutdown role. |

I am not criticizing Tanev. I am mostly having fun bugging Nucker but I do like Tanev.
I don't think you have have 3 Tanevs on a team but Two is ok as long as they are not paired together as a top pair |
