Question for the Canadians on here: I'm contemplating a trip to St. John's NF in October.
Can anybody tell me why a flight from Toronto to St. John's is 2 and a half hours, but the return flight from St. John's to Toronto is 4 hours? - buffalofan19

St John's airport is too small for jets to land. The flight from Toronto they actually just hand you a parachute at the end and point to a target on the ground.
Then, flying back, you sit in the customary wicker basket tied to 200 Canada geese. |

i really wouldn't mind taking a chance on Lehner if he is had for cheap.. he was supposed to be good and has shown glimpses.. a change of scenery and a new set of goaltending coach eyes might help him get over the hump. But if not it was worth a shot and we didn't give much up.
Say no to hammond and i think anderson is too old for TM - IndianaSabresFan
This is kind of how I feel about it too. My biggest concern with him is the concussion history he seems to have, which I think is part of why he's had some struggles recently. But a fresh start and new set of eyes could definitely help, like you said.
I think Hammond may be one of those "one hit wonders" and Anderson just doesn't fit with what Murray has said in the past. |

It shouldn't affect the actual time, though. A two hour flight is a two hour flight.
Here's how it shows on Orbitz:
Clear your selection Air Canada 692

12:35 PM Toronto YYZ
5:06 PM St Johns YYT
non-stop 2hr 31min
Air Canada 692

Return Sun, Oct 4

Both account for the time change. The flight is simply longer on the way back for some reason.
Tin Man's explanation is probably best. |

Departure time is their local time and arrival time is that local time. So it is an hour diff. Also Prop plane vs jet makes for a slower ride. |

See above. They actually give the measure of flight time as well. That can't be it. |

So the whole premise of that article was based on him not letting his nephew ask for an autograph because he could have said no? I mean I could have slept with a supermodel if you know I would have went up to her and she might have said yes and that's a lot harder of a request than asking to sign a sheet of paper...

Correct. It's actually a 3 hour flight, but with the hour you lose coming back, they're saying it's 4 hours.
The half hour discrepancy is probably just the flight pattern being slightly different as well as the difference in heading west to east. A flight to CA from NY is always faster than coming back from CA to NY. |

Plus going against the jet stream coming back. Still seems pretty extreme for such a short flight to almost double, but who knows... crazy canucks |

The discrepancy is an hour and a half, though, which I find weird.
Also, both are on the same aircraft: Airbus 320. |

The flight there is actually 3.5 hours. But they're taking the hour in time difference off, whereas on the way back they're adding it, thus the huge difference. |

Orbitz has always given the direct flight time, at least every time when I have booked with them, ignoring the time difference (i.e. it takes 2 hours from take off to touch down, etc.). Newfoundland is actually an hour and a half ahead of eastern time (why, I have no idea). I would be taking off at 2:30 NF time, and landing at 5pm NF time. That's two and a half hours.
On the return trip, I'm taking off at 11:20 Eastern Time, and landing at 3:20 Eastern time, or four hours. |

Every time I've flown, my itinerary has looked like what you posted. I've flown between Buffalo and Austin, TX many, many times as my Dad has lived there for about 16 years now. The return time always looks longer because of the time difference. |

The jet stream explanation is part of it. I fly to Kansas City often as my mother grew up there and I have family there, often times changing planes in Baltimore. I get the change, but the actual flight time is longer going back for whatever reason. In other words, I'm spending more actual minutes in the air going there than I do going back.
An hour an a half longer of flight time seems really odd, though. |

Flights are never the same length on both legs. You have to account for flying into the jetstream or some such nonsense as well as the fact some airports you have to circle and come back to land. |

Oh, I know. Like I said, though, an hour and a half difference seems quite extreme. |

Yeah, I don't know about all that. A half hour seems more plausible. |
