C'mon dude...

Did Bylsma "win the Cup" or did Crosby, Malkin, and the most talented roster in the league (at the time) "win the Cup"?

Don't be a tool. Use ur head.

YOU could have coached that team to the Cup!

Quit blowing Bylsma.

Tool......

Why was he brought in during the season?? It's tough to coach superstars! Pulled the team together and WON a Stanley Cup.......but that doesn't matter

Not wasting my time talking with a know it all!

1 week ago, not one person cared or had an opinion on Bylsma, after the Babcock desicion, it's the only name people know now.

The fan boy attitude is just as predictable as the unpopular view.

Mark my words, if Bylsma turns us down, 75% of the people backing him will change their tune quicker than you could believe

- sbroads24

I don't really have a passion either way but I don't have a case against Bylsma. When it looked like Babcock was the guy the Sabres were focusing on he wasn't even in consideration unless it fell through but he might be the best one out there now. There might be a no-name out there that will be great but it's for someone else above my pay grade to find him.

Personally, I'd rather go with an rising coach like Hynes, Blashill, or Richardson since we can't land Babcock. If we hire Bylsma, I won't be dissapointed, and I won't be excited. I feel he's a Lindy clone. Lot of the same attributes I see in both of them.

And I will say, I'm not by any means a coaching expert, I fact I think that's the area I know the least about

It does matter, because if it didnt, he would have been fired well before he was.

He did some good things for Pitt, but he also did some bad things

I'm wondering how big of a role Pegula is going to play in getting someone like Bylsma as opposed to Babcock.

Realistically this job should sell itself. Murray should be getting the guy he wants

Wow an asinine comment , and profoundly rude as well.

Why doesn't crosby and malkin win every year If that was the case.

IMO from someone who was pro-Bylsma until the Flyers series:

Pros
- Well-liked by players
- Good motivator, can get a team out of a funk and thinking like winners
- Good at getting the most out of lower skilled guys
- Good at simplifying when needed, maintaining level with depleted roster

Cons
- Has some out-dated ideas about defense
- Has out-dated views on skilled players and the value of possession
- Stubborn with his own ideas and doesn't commit to obvious alternatives

The major issues stem from him being a chip-and-chase coach and not a systems coach. He had a complicated system, but it was based around a very simple idea. Get the puck out of our zone, don't worry about control. Someone published an article recently about how important it is to get controlled zone exits to prevent shots against, Bylsma was focused on not allowing controlled entries at the expense of this. That sort of game is perfect for the team we had in 09 (or a team like LA or Winnipeg) and absolutely not perfect for the team we had afterwards. The system was built to make the most out of big and fast guys and low skilled or low hockey IQ guys because they didn't need the poise to make area passes, skilled board plays or soft passes to break out with control. That is why the system worked even with inexperienced or low skill guys.

If your team has superior physicality and is lacking skill at D or on the wings, Bylsma will get the most out of your team. If you are smaller, higher skilled and aren't going to win the physical battle in a 50-50 game; he may not be. That said, he is a smart guy and may have learned a lot since his firing.

The things we complained about were his personnel choices, his desire to have things his way (say when Despres and Bennett were making plays that worked, but weren't part of his system) and the fact that when he finally did something different that worked he wouldn't stick to it. When we were about to lose, he would finally make an obvious change, but if we were out of trouble he'd go right back.

No, you are right. He is a good coach. I'm not totally anti.

But IMO, Bylsma would be a downgrade from say... a guy like Lindy Ruff.

I'm just not overwhelmed about winning a Cup with Crosby, because 1 Cup for Crsby is considered "underachieving" by most...

Much less with Malkin riding shotty. Combined, they're a more talented duo than the likes of Towes/Kane.

"Don't be a tool"

"Stop blowing Crosby"

Babcock only won one cup with the best player in the nhl on his roster.

One cup with Malkin and Crosby is more than the other coaches they've had since both were in the league...

IMO..

"The Model" came in stages...

-The '07 Sabres had 2 "clutch" stars (Dru & Danny) in the high-tempo offensive model. But the Sabes didn't pay either, & lost bof.

-Pitt fell into Crosby & Malkin, kept bof stars... But continuously flipped their "futures", in effort to "win now".

-Chicago kept bof uptempo captains, but held onto their "futures"... while flipping their mid-tier (Ladd, Byflugien, Soup Campbell, Havlat, Goalies).

Anyways... should signed bof Dru & Danny to twin 5 yrs @ $5 mill per yr deals. Just sayin.

What are you talking about..? Other Pitts coaches?

So what if Bylsma is better than his former Pitt predecessors?

He's better than a bunch of bums, wtg YAAAY!!

If we are talking strictly "statistically" (in regards to winning Cups) then...

How many coaches have won multiple Cups, but with different teams in NHL history?

NONE??

Tampas backup(don't know how you spell it so I don't try) should be our target for goalie
