Whether you like it or not thems the rules Mike. - Cptmjl
Dumb rule, but like you said, it is the rule.
However, how anyone should expect compensation for a fired employee is beyond me.
Then again, pro sports doesn't operate like any other business. |

that's the whole point...he's not employed by the penguins...it's not a leave of absence or a demotion or anything like that...he was canned...and happened to get a severance package

Somebody on your thread the other day said that Pitts wouldn't demand a pick. I disagreed saying they were desperate for draft picks. I think pretty much any team would demand compensation if they were in their shoes. Why wouldn't they? |

According to Garth:
Buffalo: Bylsma & Sutter
Pittsburgh: 21st overall
dumb.
Pitt should get a very minimal pick in my opinion. |

Sutter blows. Garth is completely out of his (frank)ing mind. |

because bylsma's no longer employed by the Pittsburgh organization and the fact that it isn't buffalo's problem that the pens were desperate for draft picks...
screw them...they'll take a 2017 seventh rounder and like it |

No denying it.
Why would anyone want Sutter? It was one of the many terrible moves by Shero. |

Well they got Derrick Pouliot and Brian Dumoulin and a plug for Staal. Not a terrible haul for what Staal brings. |

Because you fired the employee.
You still have to pay said employee.
Once hired by another you no longer need to pay said terminated employee.
No compensation should be required.
Babcock was still under contract. Totally different scenario. |

A team that fired their coach but still under contract absolutely should not get the same compensation for a coach/gm that willingly left the organization. NHL screwed this rule up it should have been more detailed. IMO ridiculous if the Sabres have to give up a 3rd but whatever. |

THe thing that is the hiccup according to some peeps on Twitter is that if Buffalo dealt Pitt their own 3rd rounder and not one of the other 3 that they would not be able to offer sheet anyone without it.
So it could be that Buffalo is looking to offer sheet someone which is awesome for TM to have the balls to do that because there are some VERY good RFAs out there. |

I'm pretty sure the entire world is against this rule and I'm willing to bet the rule is refined to coaches/gms actively under contract and have not been fired or "let go" and will be a free agent come that July 1st. |

It's simple speculation and nothing else. Offer sheets are so rare, but it'd be pretty cool to see Murray try. He'd be the king of no (frank)s, (frank) you. |

If a team has the option to do so why wouldn't they get that draft pick? Especially when it's coming from a team they're competing with in the same conference. It doesn't matter whether it's not Buffalo's problem or not those are the rules and the Pens are within the rules doing so. They'd be stupid not too.
Bob McKenzie ✔@TSNBobMcKenzie
If PIT doesn't demand comp for Bylsma, how long before PIT gets roasted in its market for not collecting compensation that is available.

I don't think that's really the argument here Cap. We know why they'd want to, and I don't think we blame them for trying, we would too. It's just a stupid (frank)ing rule that shouldn't exist, like prohibition or not being able to drive with a moose in your car in september past 6 pm in Wyoming. |

Why didn't they demand compensation for Shero? Isn't it the same thing? Weren't they still paying him as well? If I were Buffalo, that would be my argument to the league. If we have to give up something for Bylsma, then NJ should have to give up something for Shero. |
