Probably had a hand in scouting him. I can't see Anaheim losing him, especially if they can't/won't keep Beleskey. I wouldn't mind taking a look at him as he can fit in the top 6 and can protect the younger guys ala Kane.

There wasn't any situation where the sabres where getting toffoli in a McNabb trade.

Wondering why people keep saying to double offer sheet these players. LA signed quick to a 10 year crazy money deal. if you just offer sheet jones (I don't product of LA system like scribe a) for 3 million your gonna do one of two things:

Screw LA for the next 5-7 years since they will paying almost 10 million for their goalies

Or just get him and give up the compensation since they don't need a 3 million backup to go with a 7 million starter

They aren't getting rid of toffoli. He's their future. And offer sheeting him for an overpayment screws us. Yes guys like toffoli, saad, and guys of his ilk coming off of cheap contracts look amazing. When you pay them 6 year 40 million dollar contracts and they aren't 70-80 point scorers year after year people will not think the same. Look at vanek. Good player. Would of been awesome for 5 million a year. We paid the offer sheet price and always wanted more....

Why didn't they demand compensation for Shero? Isn't it the same thing? Weren't they still paying him as well? If I were Buffalo, that would be my argument to the league. If we have to give up something for Bylsma, then NJ should have to give up something for Shero.

I heard this and can't remember where but the way I understand it the old team can ask for compensation from the new team OR remove the coach/GM contract from their books. So in the case of Shero, Pitt was able to dump his salary from their books instead of taking a 3rd round pick. In the Sabres case, they obviously chose the pick instead and will continue to pay DB.

To offer sheet them you would. If you just offered a decent contract it's just getting matched. You have to overpay enough where team won't match it. lA will figure a way to find money before they let toffoli go for a " bargain" offer sheet. That's the point. We will have to overpay to get one. They won't be expected to be franchise but they will be expected to do a lot
