Vermette, roszival, Richards, Timmonen all off the books this year. That's like 11 million right there that they will have free. Ya they will suffer some depth but they can give guys like teriveinan bigger roles. Plus they could dump Crawford off for free to a team that needs a goalie and roll with raanta like they did years ago like niemi. Edmonton would take him for future considerations. Plus they could trade sharp to a team ready to win now (Florida, Columbus, islanders) for a 3rd line cheap player and save even more. They will find a way and sign saad. - Fattony1187
The 11 mil basically dissapears with Kane and Toews new deals kicking in. Not to mention needing at least two defenders if Oduya walks.
They are listed right now at 5 mil in room without Saad, Kruger resigned, and with only 3 defensemen with contracts
Trade Sharp and that's 11 mil. 11 mil to fill 5 or 6 roster spots will be near impossible if Saad gets 6 million of it |

Which brings me back to my first point. Saad is good at his contract right now. Awesome really. At 6 million, the cost we would need to pay to offer sheet him he is not worth it. He would need to do a lot more than he's doing now if we give him a 6 year 36 million. any less contact and Chicago would be able to fit him in. Sharp can be traded easily and Crawford could be dumped to a team for free if they needed to shed his salary. |

So the 3rd in '16 is either the Canucks or Isles pick. I'm good with that. Now it's time to build the roster for next season.
G- trade for Gibson and sign Ramo.
D- with Bylsma I would expect them to go after Paul Martin now.
F- I would think the Jordan Staal rumors heat up over the summer but I don't see that. I would expect them to try to sign Michal Frolik or Justin Williams.
I would love to see Bylsma get Hynes as an asst coach and if not get Luke Richardson. Granato will probably be the other asst.
I see 5 new players in the lineup in October.
My two cents. - mhp
You would probably have a better shot trading for Hiller and have Makarov be the backup. Would be cheap. I fully expect Ramo to re-sign with Calgary while they get Ortio some spot starts next year for like $3.75/yr 2 yr deal.

He makes 800k right now. Of course that's good.
If Matt Moulson makes 5 at 31 years old. How can Saad who is head and shoulders better than him not be worth 6 for 6 years of his prime? |

His 52 points beats all of moulson's seasons except 2 and his 29 assists beats all but 1.
More importantly he's likely going to get better while at Moulson is probably in his last few years. |

Moulson had a nice stretch there, though, where he scored some goals |

Right, the key word being had. At this point it's probably safer betting on Saad getting better and closer to being worth 6 mil than a 33 or 34 year old moulson still scoring 25 goals. |

It seems like everyone thinks that they are going to poach young talent from the teams that have salary cap issues. I think they are going to going be disappointed. Guys like Toffoli, Saad, etc aren't getting moved. |

Pretty much. What do you do when you're in cap trouble? Get rid of the cheap, young guys? No, you get rid of the old dead weight if you can find a dance partner.
Then you pay the cheap young guys.
I mentioned this ages ago, but I think the modern GM is going to have to know when to jettison players at the right time, before they become Brad Richards. Even if they have a good year or two left in them. In the cap era, you cant get stuck with 4 more years of a huge contract on a guy playing in the minors
