McClellan wasn't employed anymore by SJS and Chiarelli wasn't employed anymore by BOS. Babcock was 6 weeks away from his contract expiring. Pens already passed up one 3rd rounder and are getting crucified for it. Makes no sense for them to not seek a 3rd rounder. |

I believe I read (red/reid) that they waved the compensation for Shero.
So it must be optional to some extent. - The Don
It's a double standard then. If they're that desperate for picks that they're enforcing it now, why didn't they enforce it a few weeks ago for NJ? This right here tells me they're up to something. Hopefully Murray tells them to F off. If they want a 3rd rounder next year, fine. So be it. But I think they're trying to get a higher pick out of us this year since we don't have a 3rd to give. |

I don't use twitter. At some point, I need to limit my social media usage, and since I use FB to keep in contact with family, that's the platform I currently use. - HonkFortheGoose
I feel the same. I made a decision to never cave and join twitter so long as I have FB. |

Not saying they wouldn't. Of course they would. The problem is with the rule itself. It is dumb.
The reason they wouldn't is pretty clear though. To get 2 million dollars off the books (or whatever his salary was).
Granted some teams would be happy just to get the ex-employee off the payroll. Then again, the owners all live in a different world than we do and paying someone $2 million a year to sit on a couch doesn't seem to be a problem.
Others apparently feel it is much more important to get that 3rd round pick that will turn into a prospect that has a 22% chance of skating in an actual NHL game let alone making a contribution.
Like I said, pro sports is a whole different business model than any of us can fathom. If I had a chance to clear 2 million dollars off the books and didn't do so for a 22% of getting something that 5+ years down the road might make a contribution to my company and I didn't take it, I would be out of a job really quick. - The Don
The money comes off the books whether they get the draft pick from you guys or not. Either way that third could be part of a deal that gets them into the first round. Probably not but I know that's how they're looking at it. |

You offer sheet Toffoli and Martin Jones at the same time for the same money, that way you only have one penalty. They either match on one and we get the other, or they sign Justin Williams and we get both. Im all about this plan - CoHo_to_B-Lo
You can't do that. |

Sure they can seek it, and murray should tell them to eat poop.
At least this might be a rule used against buffalo that the league changes for a positive. ..cough..draft lottery..cough |

I do not think you can since you do not have the assets to pay for both players at once if they decline both deals
if you only have 1 2016 first rd pick, you can only give that pick for 1 player
better way is try to figure out compensation to kings and make a trade |

Then the Pens won't let you hire him. You wouldn't give up a third to hire Bylsma? |

You are correct. If you offer sheet multiple people the assumption is you get them. You cannot have overlapping compensation as such. |

I don't like how hard he was crucified during the Olympics and how much Pitt fell apart after that 2 or 3 years there when they were in the SCF back and forth with Detroit.
They had some of the best players in the world there.
I'm very on the fence.
I could use some reinforcement that it is a good hire. Some youth that he raised into big players that didn't have a Crosby/Malkin pedigree behind them. |

Wrong. They both got fired at the end of this season. How is that any different than Bylsma? |

All you need to know is he is a huge upgrade from Nolan. The Sabres aren't cup contenders and probably aren't even playoff contenders for a couple years. If his approach isn't working they can boot him and bring in someone else. |

I think that coaching at the pro level is an old boys network of most any pro league. Byslma just got an early club membership with that first year Cup win. |

If they want Bylsma they should expect to give up a 3rd rounder for him. If they refuse to give that up, then they must not want him that badly and can seek out another option. |
