Highly unlikely. - hereticpride
True, but they could land a solid 2nd line forward or 2/3 dman with that pick and I'd still be happy.

I'm not. They'll get a fine player at 29 or 30. In a draft that is as good and deep as it is this year, that's more valuable than normal - Just5
They also got a 2015 3rd (90 or 91). Meanwhile Carolina only got a 2016 1st for Sekera. And I don't think the Kings are going to miss the playoffs two years in a row. |

I'm just not happy with the return on the trade.
Honestly, now knowing that the pick is 29 or 30th overall I would have rather Homer pulled the trigger with the Oilers a few years back for the rumored three 2nd rounders. I believe those picks were 37, 56 & 57. |

Hindsight is always 20/20. I can live with a late 1st in a very deep draft and an additional 3rd.

Maybe, but also possible, which is why the word "could" was used. I think you're undervaluing the pick. Just looking at the 29th pick isn't the best way of looking at it. Look at the players that have been picked 29 and later, through the remaining rounds. A team choosing 29th has the pick of every player left on the board. For example in the 2007 NHL draft, Ottawa selected Jim O'Brian, obviously not a good pick. P.K. Subban was still on the board and available. Need a little luck on your side, but it could very well happen. |

We also don't know what the exact return is going to be, and likely won't know for a number of years.

It sucks, but it's just unlucky for the Flyers. Same kinda thing happened with the Sixers. It looked like they'd have 3 picks in the top 20 this year, but then the Heat lost Bosh and the Thunder lost Durant, so the picks won't transfer until next year.
It's funny that the Lightning were so close from being bounced in the first round and now they're in the Finals. About a difference of 7 or 8 spots. Flyerluck |

Thats exactly how I felt. It was such a relief to know they aren't winning the cup. I didn't even text my Ranga friends. I'll let it be for a while. |

One of the guys we were out with last night is a Rangers fan. Watching his hopes being slowly crushed brought me great joy and satisfaction.

I actually feel bad when I'm with someone and I'm rooting against their team. Except for the Cowboys. I bask in the Cowboy fans misery.

I am still happy with the trade. I for one never expected the Tampa pick to be high, so I am just as happy with it today as I was when it was made. |

Flyers traded a good player, and got a good return, I agree. It's hard to understand this board sometimes. Flyers need draft picks, need to restock the depth, and build through the draft. They need more second round picks. Now that the TB pick has fallen to the bottom of the first round, it's bad luck, and it sucks, and the return is no good, before they even selected a player! I'd love for the pick to be 20th, but it's not. Still a good pick, and the Flyers have a real good chance of getting a good player with the pick. |

You can't judge trades with draft picks based on the success of who was selected. |

To an extent that history shows that quality players can be selected with a late first round pick, you certainly can. A first round pick, even if it is the last first round pick of the round, is a quality asset.
