Yost thinks Dougie Hamilton would look good in Blue and Gold...what would it take? Bruins are in cap hell unless they move Lucic - Stripes77
I think we have a better chance of getting Lucic in that situation. Although, I could deal with taking either of them off their hands tbh. |

? unless they're paying them big money right away i don't think they'll take up half the cap. What would Risto make on his next contract? I don't think Eichel and Reinhart will make too much on bridge deals. Moulson by then comes off the books as well (maybe even before that). - Sabresfan-365
Those 5 guys could easily add up to $30-$35 million in cap space.
If they are as good as we hope. Kane and Toews bridge deals were $6.5 million at the time the cap was lower. I would think Eichel would get more than that. Risto is going to break out and could get something similar. Ennis playing with Kane and Eichel is going to get paid. Girgensons is looking at a 3 year 12 million contract so he would be due for a raise. Reinhart could be looking at a 3 year $15 million contract.
$7 million for Eichel
$6.5 for Risto
$6.5 Ennis
$4.0 for Girgensons
$5.0 for Reinhart
That's $29 million and I am being pretty conservative for Girgensons and Reinhart. It's a great problem to have IMO but it also makes me nervous about throwing out a huge contract via FA to a guy like Yandle.
Moulson would still be on the books unless he is traded. Sure Gionta and Gorges comes off. But they you have Kane and Bogosian making a little over $5 million each with both being do for a raise at that time.
That's $40 million. Without the raise for Kane. Figure the goalies take up $7 million you're at $47 million. Yandle on the open market is going to get $7.5 easily that's $54 million. Add in Moulson unless he is traded you're at $59 million. So you have $16 million to sign:
Kane Eichel Ennis
Moulson Reinhart Girgensons
? ? ?
? ? ?
Risto Yandle
Bogosian ?
? ?
9 guys with about $1.77 million available for each remaining player. It's doable of course you need to draft and develop really well. |

Whats with all this talk about Bylsma loving veteran grinders and everyone's fear of him playing them over the kids? Last I checked, GM makes the roster decisions and call ups. So if Bylsma is playing MFE, I'm looking at GMTM |

But what's the alternative then? It's a lot to have tied up in only a few positions but they're going to have to do it no matter what. I think you just have to pay them and hope you get good value for your bottom six and enough young players on entry-level deals coming through so that you can remain competitive. |

Not sure what year you are looking at with these deals but Ennis is signed through 18/19. Eichel could easily sign a 3 year $4M ELC through 18/19. Risto could sign a bridge deal or he could sign a 5 year deal worth 3-4 per. Reinhart is a ways away from making that. It's all speculative at this point but I think they'll have the money to sign free agents for the next few years to contracts.

See my edit.
I would prefer not to throw a ton of money at a going to be 30 year old who is going to demand a ton on the open market.. If he was younger I wouldn't mind it as much. I want to build a dynasty not a be good for a few years. |

If Eichel is as good as we hope there is no way he signs a $4 million bridge deal. Look at my edit. Kane and Toews signed matching $6.5 million deals when the cap was lower. Eichel will get more |

I am looking down the road. That 18-19 season is the year after Eichel and Reinhart will be due for their raises. So will Kane and Bogosian. Moulson will still be on the books. Risto will be getting his bridge deal next season for 2 or 3 years so by that time he would get paid pretty big.
That's exactly why I don't want to shell out a 7 year $7 million per for a going to be 30 year old at the time contract. It's not the amount of the contract its the age of the player. |

Again it's not a bad problem to have. GMTM will have to be creative that's for sure. Just exactly why I don't want to dish out a ton of money next year for a 30 year old. |

By 18/19 they will be a cap team. I still would want Yandle but I don't see $7 per for him, 6 max is what I would see for him. And not for 7 years. Maybe that's foolish on my part but I would think it's feasible. Agree Murray has to look down the road but I think there will be money available. If Risto or Reinhart don't significantly improve their play, they won't get those huge deals. In fact I can see Risto getting it but not Reinhart. |

I get what you're saying, if there's a younger option out there id be more interested but they just so rarely become available. |

It's really hard to predict what some of these players will get 3 years from now. Too many variables. Go after some of these UFA's, make some trades and see how the cap looks. |

Or what approach TM takes. Do you give bridge deals and make them earn it or do you try to lock them up long term betting on their potential (i.e Hedman, Tavares) |

What is the general consensus in Ottawa?
He says he does what he knows, and I honestly don't know how they have structured their contracts for "up and coming" stars there. |

Maybe a little bit of both. Give Girgs and Risto long term deals but Zads and Reinhart bridge deals. Maybe Murray has to be aggressive but careful. Too difficult to predict.
First off for next season, get to the floor with a trade, signing Eichel and a UFA or two. |

Does anyone know how the Jordan Staal name was brought up? I probably missed it in the threads prior. |

One thing I'm sure Bylsma pitched to #sabres: acquire Jordan Staal, take some pressure off/provide mentorship to Eichel, Reinhart

At one point, was the most overracted player in the NHL, now he is just pretty horrible, no need. As bad as this FA market is going to be, there are actually better players available than him. |

That's the thing with Yandle. If he hits the open market there will be bidding war and it will turn into a max year contract (7 years) and he will get close to $7 mil per year if not more. Which is why I am not opposed to trading for him and not having to outbid other teams for him. |
