This rewriting history thing gets old.
Larsson played with skill players because Zemgus Girgensons was injured, that's pretty much it.
My god, what talent are you talking about, our GM called up Phil Varone instead of Grigorenko - sbroads24
If Murray gave Nolan the best team possible, they are 16 points better least year IMO |

Wonder how much of this has to do with Quenville getting Toews away kesler. Getzlaf's had a tough time handling him. - Sabresfan-365
Grimus got the last change right?

Exactly. It took his hand getting forced to get Larsson in a role that he was suited for.
There wasn't enough "talent" for lack of a better word, to win many games. There was enough of it that should have allowed 90% of the roster look like it had an IQ above 40. |

So Girgensons should have been bumped down then? So then we could talk about how Nolan mismanaged him? |

No. Playing Girgensons in his role, and not having Johan Larsson stuck between two fourth liners absolutely did not have to be mutually exclusive. |

Only guys I think that was mismanaged was Josh Gorges and Cody Hodgson
Gorges should have played less, Hodgson with more skill
Other than that, I have no clue what talent was left for Reinhart or Larsson to play with |

Hell, you could have played all 3 of these guys together and you'd see better than the poop sandwich that was last season. |

Sure, if you gave them exclusively offensive zone starts.. which due to the lack of talent we never had any |

One of the coaches in the cup finals is leaving a 3rd overall pick off the roster. This isn't a foreign instance to have a player not ready for the NHL |

The biggest difference is that this franchise doesn't have anywhere near 20 players that are better than said top 3 pick. The one in the Cup Finals does. |

Anaheim went from pounding the Jets, handling the Flames, to absolutely blowing it against the Hawks. They were the clear cut favorite in this tournament. And while I know all too well that doesn't guarantee anything, they really blew it again this year.
I don't want to act like the Hawks are better than I thought, but Anaheim just seemed to have it this year. Of course, it went to 7 games and it could have gone either way but you gotta wonder what kind of changes are coming in the OC. They have a young D core, some young G prospects but an aging F core and an incompetent coach who doesn't seem to know how to match lines or win a game 7. They should be right up there with LA and Chicago as multiple cup winners in the past decade yet they continually fall short since their 2006 season.
NYR got what they deserved. I don't want Nash anywhere near a Sabres uniform and that crybaby St.Louis can take his ball and go home (retire). I guess defense doesn't win championships in hockey. |

Jonathan Toews may be the most valuable overall hockey player in the league over the past 5 years. He's a different breed of cat. He's practically willed his team to a handful of victories all by himself in these playoffs. Stats aside, he brings so many intangibles to his game.
I want the Bolts to win but I'm not betting against Toews again. |

Toews has been my absolute favorite player in the league for years now. I love the type of game he plays. I would kill to see him in Blue and Gold. But, it'll never happen, so instead I just cheer for Chicago in the West. |

So then Eichel should be sent to the A or stay in college?
He got sent back to junior to keep him away from the tank and Nolan. This isn't Grigorenko. Besides he will never have to be the man here with Eichel. Reinhart had a decent camp last year. This send him down to develop talk needs to stop. He was one of if not the best player on team Canada during the world juniors. Those players don't play in the minors. - Stripes77
I certainly understand your thinking here. In my view I just don't want to rush Reinhart and stick him on the 3rd/4th line getting less than 10 mins a night. I would rather have him get top line minutes in the A for the first 25-30 games, get his feet wet to the pro game and tear it up down there. He'll be the first call up.
Now if he has a great camp, added muscle over the summer and we don't trade for ROR or find a 2C, then I'd be ok with him as the 2C. Byslma might really like Reinhart and will want to keep him. If Reinhart goes to Rochester, he won't be there for the full season imo.

What puts the likes of Toews and Kane above the rest is the fact that not only they are their team's best players, but they are constantly their team's best players when it matters the most.
That's what I want out of Reinhart and Eichel. They're going to put up points, and help the Sabres win games, but what's really going to determine whether they are truly great or not is if they put them up in the biggest moments. The lack of that is exactly why the Sabres are in this position in the first place. |

Duncan Keith is the same way. It's why if I had to choose one defensemen in the league it's him |

I would agree. However, Doughty showed he's that type of player last year as well. Those two are a class above the rest. |
