Something that popped into my head today. Did Risto ever do his Military service like Armia did?

Was there any mention of how quick they want to fill out the rest of the coaching staff? Or any mention of the Rochester staff? With Development Camp coming in July, I would assume they'd probably move pretty quick on getting some of this done.

murray said that he'd like to have the staff in place by the draft, but also said that he won't fill the positions just to meet a deadline that really doesn't exist...

they'll take their time and try to get it right

Correct... but you guys will quickly tire of "Disco Dan's" preference of old slow veterans over young payers, head scratching lineups and refusal to modify his system even when its clear as day not working (And that's with Crosby... Malkin ... Letang ... Maatta et....

Maybe he's learned... I hope you guys don't find out the hard way....

He was actually asked at his presser if he felt he has learned since coaching and he said yes. Basically that the game is changing and different styles are winning.
I assume Murray tells him the type of team he is attempting to build and asked if he had a style to match it. that kind of conversation must have happened.

Don't know why people have such a hard time believing this. Pegs just aint gonna hand over a multimillion dollar enterprise to a new guy without asking him how he plans to drive it.

Hamilton on GR brought up what Disco Dan's been up to the last year, and it included travelling around, watching hockey, taking notes, scouting, coaching the US, and (hopefully) learning a new trick or 2 to revise and improve his M.O.

I like that he's young enough to not be a 0ne-trick pony.

Also the point was brought up that not everyone can effectively coach elite players, that it takes more than showing up to the rink and saying Go Get Em Sid.

Great blog Mike.

"In speaking with [Murray] and the Pegulas, clearly we want to win hockey games immediately, but not at the cost of making a rash decision or a free agent signing that may possibly win a hockey game today but might not set us up to be a good team in the long-run. It's not so much about winning Game-1 of the regular season as it is building a winning hockey team, of building a perennial winning hockey team."

This all but solidifies my belief Sharp and the such will not be acquired by this team. Good on ya, TM.

A bit off topic but Craig Button has Hanifin at 12 in his final rankings and the 3rd defenseman.

Funny, but we did not hear a single mistake Babcock made in his loss to the Pens in the Finals, or his losing record in the playoffs since '09. Canadianliberalmediascratcheranko bias?

I think Craig Button was the only one to ever have Jack Eichel at 1 as well for a time. I dunno, between Hanifin and Provorov, Werenski in 3rd. But (frank) I'm no scout.
