Starting a franchise, top 5 defensemen I choose from
1. Myers
2. Ekman - Larsson
3. Hedman
4. Ekblad
5. Karlsson
100. Bogo
- Irish 14
U have Myers #1 on that list?
That's laughable

I think they should try to land a RW. I see no problem throwing some of Darcy's draft picks into trades.
I do think they should target ROR, but I also think that even if they acquire him, they should also try to land Wayne Simmonds out of Philly. Giroux and Voracek are their 1, 2 RW and we could pry Simmonds out with our additional picks, prospects and some D (yes that 8=====D). I don't care how much he costs, we need RW depth and have C depth to give back. He is a guy I absolutely want on this team.
As far as Goalie goes, I think they should bring up a guy like Makarov as the back-up and target a vet to bring in for 2 seasons, I don't think trading for a young goalie is a wise move no matter how nice some of them look or project to be, its always a risk. Niemi would be fine with me. We aren't making the playoffs next year and you can evaluate Makarov first hand. With Irbe still under contract it seems like he stays, let him work his magic and see what happens. Worry about a Goalie next year. - DynamicThreads
Giroux is the #1C and Wayne Simmonds is like the one contract Philly's managed to do right. He's perfect #2 behind Voracek, can't see them moving him unless it's an insane offer. |

ROR makes me nervous
He'll cost a lot to get, and even if he decides he'll stay with us, we're probably gonna have to pay him a bit more than he's worth.
That could mess with our Cap when we have to start paying guys tht are gonna put up points in the same area & above him.
Unless the right fit at RW becomes available in a trade, it's not something I'm too worried about.
Ennis is good. And I think Hodgson will rebound. Larsson or Grigorenko could potentially play wing as well.
Bailey & Baptiste are turning pro next year and have nice potential.
And Fasching & Compher aren't far behind.
Simmonds would def be a guy I'd inquire about though. Will philly take some combo of the above players for him? I'm guessing they wanna keep him, but I'd certainly try.
I'd be ok with going either route at Goalie,
Although what I'd like best is to trade for someone like Gibson, as well as get Niemi or Anderson, or a decent Vet to pair with him

He's also pretty young too
Doubt philly moves him
I brought up Nash potentially being available yesterday
Would take a lot to get him though
I'd guess, Girgensons + |

I don't think I'll waste my time with that one
If he thinks he could grow into a version of Toews, that could be a possibility
But prob a lesser version
And he's currently no where close
Toews is a top10 forward in this league for sure. An u could make an argument for him on your team over ANY forward out there |

Which would be an easy pass for most. There really isn't much out there for us this year unless things change dramatically in the next month.
I'd rather they make some minor moves, gives the kids playing time and gear up for a splash or two in 2016. What better way to make a big splash than making a trade at the draft you're hosting. |

I believe this thought process is out dated for the Sabres. It's no longer about players that "might" or "could be" good. If we have an opportunity to add proven young players and these prospects are the cost, then get it done. No more hoping or waiting on potential average players.

Everyone is so quick to start selling off assets to get new faces in town....
I'm not saying Detroit has it all figured out...but I don't see them making big time trades all the time to get themselves competitive...they develop from within
people need to understand we are probably going to pick top 10 again this season..ransoming our future in order to avoid that (which would only see us jump back to top 15) is simply being impatient
3 years from now we will be watching the Buffalo Sabres in the cup final...mark my words......but its not such a sure thing if we start trying to jump the gun simply because we get bored of hearing the same names |

I'm pretty sure Giroux's natural position is RW, although he is one of the few true pure Forwards in the game, I suppose, as he can slot to the wing and play C. I think Philly would be wise to keep him on the wing, however. He isn't the largest and if you keep him out of the circle, it prolongs his career a little. He said a few years ago Crosby just slashed him every single faceoff he took against him (its why he eventually fought him in that series) and he had to have surgery on BOTH wrists because of it. Just my opinion of course. But they could use some depth at C, which we have and they aren't about to give Simmonds away but I don't care, I say back the truck up for him.

No (frank)ing way do I want Nash on this team, nor would I give up anything of value for him. Thomas Vanek all over again. Wrong side of 30. Not a leader. Disappears for long stretches. He's like a better Drew Stafford, but just as inconsistent. Way better options for the same price NYR would want. Like Simmonds.

Is he? I think he's played most of his games at centre. He's great down the middle and makes his wingers look pretty good. |

Idk, I've always seen him listed as a RW or a RW/C in descriptions of him but I guess he has played mostly at the C position now that I look a little more into it.

Detroit hasn't won anything really worth talking about in 6 years. It could be they need to start thinking about a different approach.

You stole my thunder, my Kraut friend. Agree.
Screw being "competitive". If there's a trade that nets us a bona-fide stud, and it costs us a couple prospects, then good luck to those kids. Auf Wiedersehen.

The trade market is so bad that the GM's who hold a sacred unwritten rule of no offer sheets are seriously considering them.
Don't even get me started on free agency. I know it always features overpaid middle of the road players, but when the best free agent available is a coach you know it's a bad year.
The guy they could get drafting top 10 next year has a decent chance of being better than any free agent or trade that's available this summer.
Could also use that pick in a trade and get something a lot better as well. |

Objective read from TSN's analytics guy on Winnipeg's needs in offseason.
"Acquired in the blockbuster deal that sent Evander Kane and Zach Bogosian to Buffalo, Tyler Myers had to enjoy moving to a more competitive team. While Myers was productive enough, his relative possession stats actually got slightly worse with the Jets - perhaps a reflection of the strength of the Winnipeg defence - so he didn't suddenly turn into a standout defender. Even so, it's well worth a look to see if the smooth-skating 6-foot-8 blueliner can at least handle a top-four role."
That's pretty tepid, I'd say. |
