"Sriracha hot sauce maker warns of shortage lasting through the summer"

Huy Fong Foods, maker of the popular Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce, said a shortage of chili peppers is limiting its ability to produce several of its in-demand sauces, including its Chili Garlic and Sambal Oelek. The California-based company cited climate conditions as part of the problem.

"We are still endeavoring to resolve this issue that has been caused by several spiraling events, including unexpected crop failure from the spring chili harvest," Huy Fong Foods said in a statement to NBC News, adding: "We hope for a fruitful fall season and thank our customers for their patience and continued support during this difficult time."

An April 19 letter from Huy Fong Foods posted on a food distribution website for wholesale buyers said: “Currently, due to weather conditions affecting the quality of chili peppers, we now face a more severe shortage of chili.”

I guess we were lucky. I haven't been there since I was a youngun in the 1970's. I don't remember encountering any internationals. Perhaps Canadians, since all the people we've met were so nice ...

I would like to go back someday, since it has changed so much since the great fires of 1988. But there are so many other places in the world I have yet to visit...

My favorite in the USA would be Zion NP in Utah. I want to go back there and do all of the Mighty 5. The only other one of them we went to was Arches NP. My runner-up may be Glacier NP in Montana... but there are so many others that left a great lasting impression.

My favourite in Canada was Banff (and Jasper). And the runner-up may be Cape Breton Highlands in NP... again, there are others that I have great memories visiting.

And to be inclusive, probably my favorite outside of North America is Plitvice Lakes NP in Croatia. The people there made great hosts and were so proud of their natural lands.

(PS: My experience of the Ozzies in Australia were also dumb bumholes, but they were still mostly accommodating during our visit. I still want to go back someday and do the Ghan train. And I would like to go back to Tasmania and also visit NZ. Every one I know who's been to the latter, including my parents, have all raved about it.)

Hmmm. I believe we went to Waterton Lakes but I guess we spent more time on the Glacier side. It was the same year we also went to Banff and Jasper in the early 1980s so I guess they made more of an impression.

That was one of the years we drove westward through Canada (first drove from NJ to Toronto to visit family), then down to Glacier, and then travel eastward in the US back to NJ (Although I believe we crossed back into Canada at Grand Portage, MN to Thunder Bay to take the Trans Canada Hwy back to our Toronto relatives). Teddy Roosevelt NP in ND (South Unit) I also remember fondly. It's one of those rare parks that doesn't get as many visitors as the more well-known ones, so I recommend it if you haven't already been there.

Another year, maybe the same year as Yellowstone, we went westward through the states into South Dakota and did Badlands, Mount Rushmore (and Crazy Horse), Deadwood... and Devil's Tower (maybe within the same year Close Encounters was filmed there; also stops at Wind Cave and Jewel Cave), and after Yellowstone going south to Grand Teton, Jackson Hole (and some other stops in WY I don't recall without hassling the parents to dig-out the trip-logs), and then back (south) eastward to Colorado and Kansas (to visit more relatives) on our way back to NJ.

Utah was another year, the same that we did the Southwest including Grand Canyon in AZ, Hoover Dam and Lake Meade in NV (my dad had a business conference in Las Vegas that year), and Carlsbad Caverns and White Sands in NM before hoofing it back to NJ.

I'm thinking about all of these places all over again because we're looking into getting either a camper van or travel trailer. I don't want to get a bigger RV, though a small Class C is tempting. We're in no rush, as we're kinda waiting until the day we no longer have Bear, because we don't want the distraction of having to bring him on extended trips (though it is tempting, there are still restrictions even with the country being more dog friendly than it ever was), and I hate the idea of kenneling him for such a long time. Our parents are too old to look after him for more than a week and we don't want to impose him on any of our other close acquaintances.

The dog we had while I was growing-up was kenneled while we did our yearly summer-long trips and I regret that I didn't get to spend that time with him. My parents got him the year I was born, and he was like another brother growing up together with my older brother by a few years and me. I would of preferred to have him with us, but that was my parents decision to kennel him, as it was less convenient in many places back in those days to go camping with a dog for such a long trip.

I'm also kinda waiting to see how the market develops for electric camping/RVing, either with small RV or a truck/UV that can handle a trailer (for towing and as a possible power source for short off-grid camping). That's why I'm leaning toward a travel trailer. I don't already have a vehicle capable of towing, so that'll also have to be bought, so can get a cheap and decent gas-powered tow vehicle first and then upgrade to an EV at a later time. The EV trucks and UVs coming out now may have suitable range, but is that really the case for doing a lot of towing? But since we're not ready yet for any of this because of the dog, we're willing to wait and see how the technologies progresses.

And also hoping that the camping/RVing uptick from the pandemic also dies down in time. Like you've indicated, it put more people on the road and visiting these natural lands of ours to their capacity.
