Interesting you feel Marner takes a little bit of a slide. I agree with your premise only because I believe Marner gets dinged a little bit for his size.

no way car takes crouse over marner. I hope marner drops to us but highly unlikely

I find it kind of the opposite. The organization kind blows. The coaches very good. The teams are typically arm and arm with the Hatfield Ice dogs every year to get out of Regionals.

Not really anything against him. I just think Car and NJ like the combination of size and skill Crouse and Rantenan bring. AZ gets a franchise center is Strome. I think TOR could take Marner but might be hard to pass on Hanfin because they don't really have young dmen other then Reilly and if they move Phaneuf they need dmen. So that's how I got Marner to 7. I also think he can transition to wing which is why the Flyers take him. Still think it would beinteresting if he and Provorov are there to see who the flyers take.
- J35Bacher

I wouldn't be shocked to see Provorov and Hanifin gone in the top 6. Besides Toronto, Carolina and the Debs aren't exactly strong on the blueline. If two dmen go early, then I see Marner falling. It would be nice to eventually see a play making winger besides Voracek on the big club. Its something the team sorely needs.

Meh, the Quakers are average at the Bantam Peewee level. One team's really good. Most have winning records.

That's kinda way below my eye sight. I've been done with bantams for 4 yrs.

I'll never defend the Quakers even though my kid plays for them. Trust me when I say, other than the Exton Kings & anything out of Reading, this is the last place I ever thought my son would play.

The Devils actually have a few good young defensemen, they need to get more talent up front. Carolina has some decent D depth in the system, as well.

Well, I have no idea what's going on down there but for the most part, unless your kid is playing jr flyers, there shouldn't be any club promoting winning below the bantam level. If your focus is winning with kids that young your organization has deeper issues. I find that other than at the very top (where they're employed by the rink), all of these organizations are run by the parents. ALL OF THEM. The board members are parents, the team reps are parents, the off ice officials are parents and most of the coaches are parents. I've served as all but a coach and I've been asked to do that almost every year.

We've been with 5 different teams and it's all the same. The only thing that makes the Quakers different is enrollment and longevity of enrollees. They have more kids who start earlier and stay longer in the program. That's it. Hatfield is pretty much the same except they cherry pick players from other teams. Hershey's a poacher too.

All the other area teams struggle from year to year.

Do you have a kid in a local program?

well disagree you need to promote winning. does have to be the be all end all; though still promote it. yes parents run the show in most cases.

my kid plays at Comcast.

Basically, those two teams are similar to the Flyers on the blueline. Good prospects, but probably nothing that will deter either team from taking a Provorov or Hanifin if they are viewed as elite top pairing dmen.

Does Hanifin and Provorov have a higher draft grade then Fluery, Honka and Sanheim did last year? I feel that after McDavid, Eichel, and Strome will be gone in the top 4, after that, it is going to be really interesting to see what the Canes and Debs do. I wouldn't even be surprised to see Columbus move up and go get the prospect they really want.

I think Carolina & NJ are better on the back end at the NHL level than the Flyers, especially when it comes to young defensemen.

Carolina has Faulk and Murphy on the roster. Jordan and Rissanen also look to be really solid youngsters. Fleury, McKeown, Carrick and Pesce are all good prospects. I really like Carolina's depth in terms of system on defense.

In Jersey, they have Larsson, Severson, Gelinas and Merril on the roster and Santini and Jacobs in the system.

I think both have far more pressing needs up front, but that's not to say they won't be tempted by a Hanifin or Provorov. I just think they're looking at forwards.

At the peewee level and below your entire focus should be on skill development and learning the game. Winning should be secondary but if you have able kids and are teaching correctly winning will come. You're talking 12 yr old kids and under. Lots of those kids are just getting into the game at Tier II especially around here. Bantams are when winning should start to matter.

But c'mon, Team Comcast and the Jr Flyers are completely different from the local Tier II organizations. Yeah, if my kid was playing in a Tier I program or a JR travel program and I'm shelling out that kind of dough I'm expecting something different. I still don't need my preteen stressing out hockey loses but hey, different strokes and all.

You need to keep your kid and mostly yourself in Tier I if that's your expectation and away from the kids who are playing because they love the sport. That's what Tier I is for: expectations.

I've been through the DVHL with my son from the squirt level all the way through u18. My experience mirrors yours. It was very frustrating to the clubs run by parents and coached by parents ( and I'm guilty there as I coached my son a few seasons) I also think the DVHL is a joke.

I can't even begin to talk about the DVHL as an entity. I have almost nothing positive to say about it. We've had to threaten legal action only to find out two years later, the person at the club level who we "HAD" to talk to a lawyer about was brought into the DVHL to manage a portion of the league. This guy cared zero about the kids, only self promotion and leveraging himself into a big fish position in this little pond.

This is only one of many, many issues I have with the DVHL but isn't it just wonderful how they let parents evaluate their own kids at eval's?

So work has been slow today. I decided to do my official top 10 mock after reading a lot of articles and scouting reports.

EDM - McDavid
BUF - Eichel
AZ - Strome
TOR - Hanifin
CAR - Crouse
NJ - Rantenan
PHI - Marner
CBJ - Provorov
SJ - Werenski
COL - Zacha

- J35Bacher

Somewhere, Tomahawk is beaming!
Hard to see Carolina passing up Provorov for Crouse, but other than that, I could see this happening if trades aren't made.

If the Flyers take Marner over Provorov and Meier I'll be really confused about how I feel since I haven't even considered him as a potential pick.
- mayorofangrytown

Marner's skills are off the chart and he has very good wheels, however don't expect him to make an impact at the NHL level for at least 2 years. He needs to get stronger.

Gotta tell ya though, when I look at this kid, I definitely see some Claude Giroux in him and that can only be a good thing!

Yep. Just went through it for the final time. When you're in the same club year after year, your kid is an A player or he's a AA and it holds all the way through. There are a dozen kids who are AA first year 18Us on the AA team. There's an A1 and A2 team. I know a lot of these kids. I watched evals and have been for the last 10 yrs. There are at least 10 kids who are 2nd yr 18Us playing A who are far better hockey players than the first year players playing AA.

But these kids have been AA and if they aren't AA all hell will break lose. The coaches move up with their kids and bring their friends along.

Someone mentioned my kid playing D one year. My son was the 20th leading scorer in the league as a first year minor midget. There was one kid "in the league" his age ahead of him. Next season, new coach with his kids and my son is playing D because he can't get ice time as a forward. He was the only second year player on the team. Talk to the coach. He's getting ready for next year when the team will be competitive including moving them up a level so "his son" can maybe make the transition to Tier I. We won 1 game. His son did so bad that he quit. My son moved up. Returning players from that team of 22 the next season? 3.

I could go on all night.

I feel your pain. My kids not even playing travel this year. He's just had enough. Breaks my heart to see him not play his last year of u18 but he's just done with it all. He'll probably play in house and for his high school (which is another story)

My son plays Varsity and 18U. It's his last year too.

My son plays for the Quakers, obviously and regrettably, and Downingtown West. Were does your son play/played. We may know him.
