A team like Arizona would be the only chance. But they are looking for cap hits with low actual dollars paid out.
That doesnt work for Mac, but maybe it would for VLC - nails
win-win-win
AZ gets to the cap floor with low-ish cash out the door
VL gets to play and the rest of his contract is intact
Flyers free up cap space |

Not really. Franson scores about half his points on the PP. With the Flyers he's going to see less PP time, because he's behind Streit and possibly Del Zotto.
He's better than MacDonald, but not by leaps and bounds-and I'm not one to usually defend MacDonald.
Plus, how is the cap situation helped by having both Franson and MacDonald. Doubt they can find a taker for MacDonald's cap hit and term - Jsaquella
do u really think streit plays at the same pace for two-three more years? I'm worried he starts dropping off now. |

St.Louis 52 pts
Jagr 47.
On a one year deal I think he can still provide secondary socring and 2nd PP help - J35Bacher
St. Louis can (frank) off. Want nothing to do with him and he'll want nothing to do with the Flyers. He'll sign with a contender. |

I don't think anyone can say definitively either way. I expected he's start dropping off after year 1, but he was as good as/better than advertised last year. The thing with Streit is that he started playing in NA late, so he doesn't have as much wear and tear on him as most other players his age in the NHL. |

I hear he has a good, friendly relationship with Gostisbehere. |

I just don't know how much value Marty has in a trade anymore. He isn't Jagr or anything. - nails
marty looked like he lost a step in his game this past year. His age is definitely showing. I have very little interest in signing a guy like him.

nope not a longterm solution just a guy who is in the same age bracket as our key players that can add a dynamic we need (more firepower from the point) until said kids are ready. - JoeRussomanno
When Franson was originally with Nashville I was a huge fan. Now...
I'm feeling fairly certain he's a reclaimation project. He's going to get a nice contract around 5 mil. I'm going to go ahead and say whatever structure and skill he had leaving Nashville was completely corrupted by his time spent in T.O. I thought he struggled mightily when he return to the Preds at the deadline. |

Can't wait for another dry offseason with everyone here all upset about Hexy signing no one but AHL/NHL tweeners. |

So now we're going from upgrading MacDonald to downgrading Streit?
Sorry, unless MacDonald and at least one other defenseman making over $3mm is gone, I have zero desire to sign Franson as a UFA. He's not a good defender, he's a decent ES offensive producer and he's a good PP guy. He's not enough of an upgrade that he'd be worth the impact on the cap for me.

I see your point.
I would still take Jagr.
Marty scored 25% of his points on the PP and was first unit with the rangers. He probably slips again if he just gets second unit time.
IDK, the deal would have to be right. 1 year and 3M maybe? |

I wouldn't be upset, but I think he does something to try to address the defense. I'm sure we'll see guys sent out to make room, but I think we might see a trade. |

and you gotta remember that marty scored his points on the president trophy winning team, while jagr scored half his points on a bottom feeder devils team, and the rest on a skeptical, bubble playoff team. I'd still take jagr.

right about what? ... seems like he'd be a good pick up tho. - JoeRussomanno
Crouse is too big of a risk IMO. Low ceiling is apparent with him. They compare him to Lindros but how many times have we heard that with players before. in the top 10 if I'm going wing he has to be a player that oozes skill and is a game changer. This guy hasn't even proven to make players around him better yet |

I always liked MSL until that. And then when you couple it with where he went, he got in the fast lane to my most hated list. |

He was the #6 in Nashville in the playoffs, and by a large margin. And he wouldn't be on the top PP unit here so his point totals wouldn't be close to what they were in Toronto. And he's going to want a lot of money. There's no place for him in Philly.

I dont see a big trade happening. I see subtle moves being made. Similar to last year.
If he brings back a poopload of these current defenseman, I'll be kinda pissed because Schultz could have gotten them a nice return at last years deadline |

I don't think he's going to do much, honestly. Unless he moves out 2 guys with $3M+ deals, he won't have much space to do anything. I'd move out 1+ of Schenn/Grossmann/AMac, resign MDZ is he's take 2 years around $3M, resign White to one-year deal, sign a UFA vet backup, and call it a day more or less. |

Really? I've hated him ever since he tried to smash Zhamnov's exposed hand with his stick in the 2004 playoffs. |
