Yeah, in that blog that 2reel posted

I actually like Crouse, but there's people acting like he's gonna step in and be Tim Kerr.

- Jsaquella

The beauty of having a player with Crouse’s size and potential is that it will create the need for opposing teams to strategize differently than they otherwise might (such as with Malkin and Crosby in Pittsburgh). Imagine the above scenario in which Crouse could wreak havoc with Sean Couturier and Wayne Simmonds. If such a line was clicking on all cylinders, it would be difficult to also send your shutdown line out to defend against the Claude Giroux line with Jake Voracek and likely (hopefully) Michael Raffl.

Possibly, but that's not a certainty. He might end up being a David Clarkson, a good, solid top 9 winger that brings grit, physical play and leadership, but not a ton of offense.

I agree he's going top ten, and I would have no issue if he was picked at 7. But he's not my top choice there.

- Jsaquella

Nor mine. I have Provorov, Barzal and Caonnor ranked ahead of him.

I have Connor right behind him and Meier. I still have Werenski in that area, but he's the guy I have seen the least of.

Like who?

After McDavid and Eichel the others all seem interchangeable where you can see different options. Not sure it would be considered a drop really.

Provorov would still be my target at 7 if there. He fits right into the system they want to run. Also they can still get a good winger later. After Provorov I don't think you can go wrong with Barzal, Crouse or really any others if there. Maybe Marner drops a little and makes it to 7. That could be intriguing.

Flyers need to worry about having a legit line two scoring threat before worring about "wrecking havoc"on other teams.

Crouse, Coots, Simmonds is probably not going to put up great 5 on 5 numbers tbh.

Yeah, I want Provorov 1st then Barzal 2nd. Highly unlikely that both are gone by 7. Get yourself a winger with Tampa's pick or a trade involving it.

Crouse - Couturier - Schenn could be. Also Crouse isn't some kid that lumbers around for his size. He can skate well.

Then you could have a 3rd line of Read - Laughton - Simmonds.

I'm still with Provorov & Barzal. Rewatching highlights, I might slide Zacha or Crouse higher, but they won't pass those two.

I won't debate that. I think he could step in right now and play on the third line. I'm looking at down the road, what's the ceiling? Could he be a Simmonds type scorer that helps on the PK as well? Is he going to be a solid 20-25 goal guy that plays all situations? Is he another Clarkson?

He's a good prospect and will be a solid NHLer, maybe more. Comparing him to Lindros is setting him up to fail.

- Jsaquella

Yeah, he's a kid. Who know what he does once he's drafted? He could come in, hit the weights and dedicate himself to being the best player he possibly can. He could also cash the check, fall in as the third line left wing and never improve. Other than McDavid and Eichel, dedication to improvement is something we can't gauge by watching the games. Someone else is going to have to tell us that.

I do but if he's paired with Simmonds I think you need a true skill guy on the left side to make that line work.

Making a backhand saucer pass is not a routine play for most NHL defenseman. There's a reason why NHL teams strategize and formulate their forecheck and dump ins to try and get defenseman to have to play the puck on their weak side and their backhand. It's also a reason why good RH defenseman are coveted.
- MJL

It's probably a big reason why RH dman Gudas was brought in. Now they have the flexibility to move either of Schenn or Grossman or both if they can find trade partners.

I think dumping either one will require one of eating money or taking back a contract.

If I am correct, as long as the Flyers qualify MDZ with the 10% raise offer, any RFA contract means the team gets a pic in compensation depending on the amount of the offer. Which will most likely, if it were to happen, be enough that it did indeed require a pick in compensation.

If the Flyers offer him 3m I don't see many teams coming in trying to beat that deal. And if they do, take the pick.

Cap Hit of offer sheet Draft Pick Compensation
$1,110,249 or below None
Over $1,110,249 to $1,682,194 Third-round pick
Over $1,682,194 to $3,364,391 Second-round pick
Over $3,364,391 to $5,046,585 First-round and third-round pick
Over $5,046,585 to $6,728,781 First-round, second-round and third-round pick
Over $6,728,781 to $8,410,976 Two first-round picks, second-round pick, third-round pick
Over $8,410,976 Four first-round picks

- MBFlyerfan

I'd even be willing to go for 3.375 and force a team, if they really want him, to give up a 1st and a 3rd. Can't really see anyone giving up that much for MDZ, but you never know.

After the season long rankings, I think Hanifin could be considered a Couturier type of drop in the draft. He was ranked third from last June well into the season and now there's a half dozen other player who could go ahead of him.

After the top two, I've heard and believe he's the most NHL ready. They've been saying it since mid season. He wouldn't be my pick but he's part of a group of about 7 players where I'd go, "Ok, I can see it."

We all have our favourites after all.

- mayorofangrytown

NHL readiness is far down on the priority list especially for this team.

Hell, I'd be happy if he could just step in and give us more on the left side than Umberger, last year's version of Matt Read and VDV!
