Yes, you need the best of both worlds. What Pittsburgh has failed to do is draft and develop young players. They had no choice but to rely on a few players, because they've had so few good young players come up through the system on cheap deals.
Actually, we had some of the best coaching we've seen in Pittsburgh in years. Unfortunately, we continue to have tragic luck with injuries and illness. - madmike71
Yeah. You guys seem to get screwed in that regard every year. Letang, Crosby and Malkin are always seeming to get injured.
Concussions, blood clots, etc. some oddball injures too.
You guys definitely need to do better in developing younger players and drafting better (we do too), but a stud shut down D man, like a Keith, Seabrook, Doughty, Hedmen, even Boychuk, etc. Someone that would be considered a D first number one is what you guys need the most though.
And drafting and developing them takes awhile. You guys need to make a big trade and grab one from somewhere.
Easier said then done though.........would Nashville package Weber for Malkin? Something outside the box. |

The Pens have been chasing their own tail for years. Always trying to trade for missing pieces instead of drafting and developing them. It sucks. The more picks out the door at the deadline means fewer good young players in the system.
I think Malkin will eventually be moved, but not for another year or two. We need wingers in the worst way. We have one legit top 6 wing (Hornqvist). Maybe if Perron plays up to his talent we'd have 2.

Talk about firing him if they didn't come back and beat the Habs 4 years ago, talked about firing him if we didn't come back and beat the Leafs two years ago, Neely wanted to fire him mid-season.
This is getting pathetic. Short leash? So what the hell is the point of keeping him if you have him halfway out the door?
Edit.....FYI I always see people post the reasons why we should not keep him, but what are the reasons we SHOULD keep him?
And saying, "look what he did four years ago," and "this is the first year he missed the playoffs," isn't enough.
What are the things he brings to the table as a coach and leader that make him so untouchable?
Not his style of play anymore, not this faith in vets, what are the reasons besides "the past"? I never hear those points when people try to make an argument of why we should keep him. - JIwasinskiJr
The should keep him at this point for a couple reasons,
1.He's a proven coach who has a proven system that can get a team to the SCF
2.There's NO ONE ELSE right now, that includes Milbury, Roenick, and that dumbs in Providence
3.Even having traded one of their best D man, Losing another to a long term knee injury from which he never recovered, Losing the first line center for most of the year, and never replacing the 30 goal scoring winger from 2 years ago, he still almost made the playoffs, if other teams like the Isl and Sens didn't improve so much they would have been in.
4. He deserves a little respect for everything he's accomplished so far.
5. Did I mention there's no one else? |

I believe the Bruins are just trolling the fans at this point. Sweeney/Neely & Jacobs are drinking scotch and smoking cigars and planning the next ruse to drive fans crazy while laughing manically |

I think hiring Cassidy would be so stupid.... same system and an unproved AHL coach.... Why get rid of Claude who has been one of the best coaches in B's history to bring in a slightly worse/inexperienced guy that runs the same system.... |

I honestly think they don't want to make any major moves so they're putting on this dog and pony show to appease the media. You might see one of the bad contracts moved (Kelly, seids, smith, looch) otherwise I think we see the same team back |

There is absolutely no way the Bruins are that dumb to hire Milbury..no way.. Wait didn't they also hire john Ferguson jr? |

f.n. Millbury.... really, ...
I would rather they hire Hazel Mae as a coach, she knows her hockey and is better looking.

I think you are right. Which means we as fans are in for a crappy few years.
Last time we went into a season with a coach on a leash was with Pat Burns and we hired Mike Keenan mid season.
Guess who we will have as our coach by New Year? Mike Milbury or Cassidy. And another lost season. |

Love it. Bring up Butch Cassidy. At least the radio bits on Douche Rocket and Mazz will be entertaining. - glove_was_stuck
Read that article about Sweeney making him clean house. But what does that say about him then?
"Hey, Julien, we are going to keep you around because we think you are a good coach, but we have a few things we are going to need you to do.
First, we need you to fire your assistant coaches because we don't think they are working out.
I mean seriously, our PP have you seen it? Probably not because no one has since Savard got hurt. Hahaha. But seriously. And we will help hire assistant coaches that we think will work better for us.
Second, we have not done a good job with integrating younger guys into our lineup, so you need to play the kids more and deal with there growing pains.
I know this is the opposite of what you have done in the past by relying on your safe and defensive vets, but that needs to change.
Here, take this Spoon and have some Pasta.
Third, your system. We are too passive and lay back on our heels. We do not attack and bring the fight to the opposing team and rely on capitalizing on the other teams mistakes.
But, how many Bruins does it take to put the puck into an empty net........?
Seriously......I'm not joking. How many?
Smith, Lucic, Ericksson, Kelly, Paile, ugh.
Well, after we change everything you are comfortable with and what has brought you success in the past, we feel the future will work out perfectly.
Don't you?"
Yup....this ends well.

^ Nice I really cannot wrap my head around what's going on with this front office. I thought Cam and Sweeney were being groomed to be pro's? This is bush league.
I am returning to my old ways. I am returning to hoping the Jacobs burn and this team is sold to someone who knows what the (frank) they're doing from a Hockey point of view. At least with Chiarelli, they had direction at one point. This is a mess and none of these buffoons are capable of cleaning it up. (frank)ing joke. |

There is always Ted Nolan.... not sure why there is a hate out for him to coach. Seems to always get dumped into the "no win senario"

The funny thing about coaches is the hate people have for them after there first and/or second jobs.
This isn't CJ's first team, he has been fired before by the Habs and the Devils.
Pat Burns was fired by the Leafs and the Bs and won the Cup with the Devils.
Joe Quenneville might be the best coach in the NHL, although no one talks about him, and he has been coaching since 1996. Stints with St. Louis and Colorado.
Now he has a chance at the first Dynasty since Detroit.
This is the natural order of things. History and facts are magical things.
It seems amazing that everyone says there is no other coach out there when everyone EXCEPT Babcock has had many, many crappy years before success. And with Bacbcock he was given the keys to a great team to begin with. |
