Wouldn't we retain salary if we bought Bieksa out?
- Retinalz

No one is buying Kev out...he's a decent player and viewed (in my opinion) around the league as a good leader.

I think if you buy anyone out, you retain salary- maybe I am screwing it up and it is cap hit and salary plays no part. But you spread it out over a longer time, so if one year is remaining you spread it out for 2 years or something and it is a reduced portion anyway.

First post of the day for me and I am already talking out of me butt.

As long as we didn't have any hit to our Cap i would be 100% on board with buying Bieksa out if he did not waive for a trade.

Canucks can't buy him out even if they wanted to, he'd get claimed off of waivers first.

I was half listening to 1040 this morning, and there was mention of the cap possibly going down.

Got me wondering, not rationally- obviously, what player could the Canucks buy out to free up some space?

Thinking about it now, I am not even sure when they are allowed to buyout? Is it in the summer or just before the season starts?

Even though some players would be exposed to waivers first, with a cap crunch, wondering if other clubs who may want that player would want to wait to see if they could sign him as a ufa at a reduced salary after his buyout?

But as I mentioned earlier, Kev's salary is a bit less than his cap hit- bad example.

I like Kev as much as the next fan. However his roster spot is better used for someone young at this time. Need to give games to our future d, not our past d.

I really wish that we had some cap space going into the summer. It would be nice to be in a position to take advantage of teams that need to shed salary instead of being a team that is taken advantage of because we need to shed salary.

Bieksa, Higgins, Miller = just to make room

Vrbata, Burrows, Hamhuis, Edler, Hansen, Bonino, Kassian - depending on the deal.

Is it too soon to buy out Sbisa?

Yes.

Might be able to move Vrbata though and get a late first and free up some space. He has to have some teams looking at his production and cap hit, not bad value there.

He has trade value, if he won't waive now then I'd still rather keep him until the TDL and then try to convince him to waive again(probably easier to get him to waive at that point).

He's probably the easiest to move and would bring back a decent return, but unless you can get a few teams interested no one is going to pay a premium if they know you need to shed salary. Plus, I'm assuming that he has a NTC, cause that's how we do, so any team that he would agree to waive for is likely at the cap ceiling as well.

This is where the Sbisa/Miller deals get really annoying.

I believe his NTC is limited and he must provide a list of 10 teams he'd accept a trade to.

Makes you wonder if or how bad the supposed rift is with the Sedins.

Get me out of this silly Swedish commune.

a few more weeks until the draft. Just have to get the finals out of the way, heard they are in August this year.

It makes the most sense to keep Markstrom since he is being mentored and tutored by goaltending legend Dan Cloutier.

That is true, but he would have to be a healthy scratch for most of the year. We need Clendening and Corrado getting as many games in as they can

EDIT: Also preferably no games for Weber/don't resign him. Depending on the raise he wants qualify him for min though. That way if a team wants him they give us picks.
