Doubt Cassels will draw into the lineup for the Comets if they make the Calder Cup Final unless a center or 2 get injured. McCann hasn't been able to draw in yet and I'd imagine he'd draw in before Cassels since he's had more practice time with the team. |

Thanks for the blog CS.
I think or agree that Weber should be qualified for the minimum as suggested in the last thread.
Cap is going to be tight. Not sure what Santorelli's value will be, but I think he could likely be had at a slight discount. Not really what we need, but he does have some skill and might be better in the dot than Vey. Maybe Vey goes to the wing then?
Anyway, not sure why I am talking about signing free agents when I'd rather move some vets out and give the youth a chance.
Still want to see a dman or two moved. |

IT was the driest May on record (since 1937 when records began at YVR) plus tied for 2nd warmest! Changes coming - some rain tonight/Tuesday
And there it is...the change we were all expecting has nothing to do with the Nucks. |

Better all around or does it depend on the role. Cassels likes to get in on the fore check... Is that McCann's game too?
I was hoping to see McCann get a shot with Utica.
Want to see all our prospects get an opportunity. Just to see what we have. |

Agreed. My thinking is that Cassels would still benefit from practicing with the team and being in the winning environment, much like McCann. And it wouldn't be too hard on him physically if he's not seeing game action.

From what I've read and seen (limited on the seen) he's been touted as one of the better two-way players in the OHL. |

This exactly my line of thinking. He should be there... but they should be careful about his vulnerability to injury. I'd hate to see him miss camp again.... missing his camps may be worse for him than not playing in the final... has he already missed 2 camps?

Cassels shut down McDavid and out scored him in their series didnt he? Sounds like he is ahead of McCann at this point of their developement. He's a year or two ahead besides.

From what I've seen and read, both are two-way centers that play against other top lines
McCann is a much better skater and has a much better shot, better stick handler as well. More explosive in general.
Cassels is an agitator, more physical/gritty, better passer/playmaker, heavier player. The kind of guy you hate to play against. |

Yes he did...but still, McCann's total body of work IMO is better than Cassels, not to in any way downplay Cole as a player.
McCann is a better skater, he's a better pure shooter, offensively, he's just more talented. |

I havent been up to date on everything. Been spending so much time in the bush fishing lately. What a season... dry warm conditions.... hardly any lost days to weather.... iincredible trophy trout fishing in so may lakes this year... have barely thought about hockey. Back to the woods tomorrow again. Been on a lake where the trout average 6 pounds and 8 to 9 pounders are frequent. Not bad when you are landing over 20 a day...
My biggest trout on the fly this season so far is 11.5 pounds. Saw a 14 pounder caught on one of the lakes I was camped on. Holy fuk |

Future potential and today are two different things. I don't think it's a stretch to think Cassels is more ready.

To date, ya I'd be hard pressed to debate that point. Be nice to have see McCann play a game for the Comets. |
