‏@TysonGiuriato Just spoke with Cole Cassels, who isn't sure if he will join Utica yet. Dealing with a few bumps and bruises. Needs a couple days of rest.

I havent been up to date on everything. Been spending so much time in the bush fishing lately. What a season... dry warm conditions.... hardly any lost days to weather.... iincredible trophy trout fishing in so may lakes this year... have barely thought about hockey. Back to the woods tomorrow again. Been on a lake where the trout average 6 pounds and 8 to 9 pounders are frequent. Not bad when you are landing over 20 a day...

My biggest trout on the fly this season so far is 11.5 pounds. Saw a 14 pounder caught on one of the lakes I was camped on. Holy fuk

I'm envious of you're fishing skills. I go on a camping trip to the interior with a couple of friends every year, and we're lucky to pull in one each the entire weekend.

Bieksa - No.

Higgins- No.

For arguments sake though. If we moved Bieksa and Higgins, got picks back and signed Santorelli and Ehrhoff for lesser cap hits than Bieksa and Higgins, wouldn't we be better off if it was only a season or two?

I am trying to embrace the playoff strategy of Benning. But still want to see some of our youth get a chance so I am really against signing ufa's if it means youth riding the pine or in the press box.

I will never understand this love affair of bringing back Canuck players that we have shipped out once before .

I would rather try out Vey Gaunce Cassels or anyone than bringing back Santorelli.

Give me Sanguinetti Corrado Pedan Clendenning Biega Treymko over Ehrhoff

We all talk about getting younger but always never are willing to open spots for the kids to play.

It has been said here many times, we are not winning the cup in the next two years ,give the kids a chance

we also may only have 3 mil in cap space with 6 players to still sign.

There has to be a balance. You can't simply rush young players because you don't like the roster of the big club. It could be an epic way to ruin careers before they even have a chance.

Exactly why we'll see change with some of the older players

I hear you and I would love to see Bieksa and Higgins gone as well. But I don't think Bieksa is going anywhere but Higgins might be.

Bringing in Santo or Ehrhoff is moving backwards and not forwards IMO. Sure we can save a bit of cash if they are cheap but they are soft...soft...soft hockey players and we need to move away from that moniker...especially here in the west.

I could see MNGT looking at Ehrhoff to help out the PP and if he was cheap it's just too risky. And Santo vs the heavy western teams at this point would be useless to us.

Like you said give the youth shot but MNGT still has to surround that youth with proper veteran leadership...which we don't have much of.

Can we park this logic until Wednesday?

I don't disagree, but it is more about what JB will do.

I'm all for giving youth a shot, but it was hard enough for WD to accept Horvat in the lineup. I think some of the guys that have played in Utica for a season or more will have a better chance of cracking the lineup than some of the guys fresh out of the chl.

I would like to see a couple of d moved, at least one fringe guy that would have to clear waivers and Bieksa. And of course Higgins. Even would be okay moving Bonino or Burrows for the right deal, but don't expect it to happen.

I believe there's enough players around in the veteran category to insulate the kids he's talking about.

Getting rid of Higgins, Burrows and Bieksa means there's still Henrik, Daniel, Hansen, Hamhuis etc etc

We have a bunch of young guys ready to make the jump surrounded by Burrows Hamhuis Sedins Hansen Edler , and we have fans still wanting more experience of players that have been bounced around from team to team

I see Grenier Gaunce Clendenning Freisen Sven Corrado as all players that could make the jump coming off a winning year and surroundings others that are maybes are Pedan Sanguinetti Virtanen and Cassels

I agree no to Santorelli, but if we can get rid of Bieksa and not resign Weber (who is horribly defensively) and get Erhoff on a short 1 year deal for 4 mil, I'd take him.

I don't think Bieksa is very far off of soft. He sure doesn't punish anyone.

When you say proper veteran leadership, I don't know what we have is proper. I don't want players to look at the Sedins and try to emulate their play, I think Hansen is less physical than he used to be, I am not sure if that edge is lost due to age or him emulating the Sedins play (along the boards and in the corners).

Bieksa and Higgins are supposed to be in great shape, as the Sedins, but I don't want guys to necessarily play that style. Follow in the fitness, but not the style of play.

Dorsett has brought some new life to the bottom 6.

I hope Cassels gets to train with Dorsett in the summer.

I know leadership comes in many forms, but I think leading by example is often the best.

Young players have to know the organization will reward them for their play/success at the AHL level. Three kids coming onto the team next year would be awesome...to me.

Why?

Didn't Pitt have him signed at 1 mil and are letting him walk ? Buffalo had him at a cheap 4 mil and let him walk.

I want this too.

It remains to be seen, what will JB do?

I really wanted to see what Sanguinetti could do with the Canucks last season. Could he be any worse than Weber?

Guessing management was extremely tentative putting some of these guys into the lineup, afraid to miss the playoffs.

Sanguinetti has some decent goals this playoffs. Weber had more goals that any of our 4+ mil Dmen , that needs to change

Up front I would rather give a chance to the kids, but on the back end? I want a proven puck mover, regardless of age.

Check out this video of Daniel Sedin's Art Ross season:http://vansunsportsblogs....ross-trophy-season-video/

A couple things I immediately noticed was how quick the puck went from the half boards, to the defence, and into a shooting position as well as how quick the puck was directed at the net while 4 players crashed the net. You'll notice so many goals of our powerplay goals were scored when a defenceman crashed the net along with the forwards.

He has a great pass, can get the puck through defenders, and can walk the line well, but can he jump into the slot and take the requisite beating to score dirty goals? I don't think he's that kind of player.

Maybe I'm just trying to recapture our past success, but I want the same quick, overwhelming powerplay we had for a couple years around 2010.
