I have read Emelin is on his way out. He'd be paid too much to be a 5th defensemen - sbroads24
Agreed. For some reason people see that a veteran signs a big contract and assume a kid is on the way out. The kids are cheap. |

I'm not arguing that Nolan deserved to stay or is a good coach, but can we stop acting like he's this moron who won the price is right to coach hockey?
He's been coaching for decades.
Ristolainen, Foligno, Larsson, Grigorenko all improved, it's not like they had no one improving. You could even argue he helped get Myers game back on track after Rolston left |

As Murrray has said over and over and over, getting to the floor is really easy.
Look, if Hodgson was a UFA and we could get him for 2 mill to take a look I would take a flyer on him. We did it last year with a couple of guys. It just isn't worth missing the opportunity to rid ourselves of his contract. Lots of quality players will be here within 2 years. I need a guy with his salary and talent to have a higher ceiling than "useful". - Slump Buster
Yes, getting to the floor is easy. But what good does it do to bring in guys with over inflated contracts that you don't need here in a few years anyway? Why not just keep Hodgson, try to get him to be productive, and then move him? To me, that's the much better route. Otherwise you're just saddled with a different bad contract. It's no different. |

I don't know... the guy couldn't even get an AHL job after that. And there are rumors that multiple people went to Pegula after his first year and said that he had no idea what he was doing. He seems like a good man.... hard to defend the rest of it. |

You're making my point for me. There area always guys like Meszaros that you can bring in for a year and be done with him after that. If he turned out well we could have flipped him for a pick. If not, you're done with him. I can have my cake (not being saddled with bad contracts) and eat it too (take a flyer on a short-term contract).

Nolan is a GREAT man.
It should written in stone. Or at least carved into a sidewalk somewhere...

I am glad we severely upgraded, but I think people are going to be dissapointed when the goaltending drops off with Bylsma
If their are two things each coach is known for, Nolan gets great goaltending everywhere he goes, Bylsma loses playoff series because of goaltending |

In many cases guys want more than a 1 year contract. Now you're stuck with a different bad contract. Many people around here aren't super happy with the fact that Moulson's contract is 5 years. Or that Gionta's was 3. Congratulations. You managed to pick out the 1 contract out of all the guys we signed last year that was a fairly high cap hit and for only 1 year. |

Not sure what your point is. Look at the goaltenders that each coach has had. |

We're talking about taking a flyer on a reclamation project. If they want more than a year or two, no deal. I don't need to take on garbage or retain garbage.
Also, the one thing that several people are saying is that we should keep him around to try to rehab him into something that can be moved. It seems like even in the best case scenario his supporters don't want him. |

We actually did. The Ewok and Neuvirth were very good. I was speaking more to Hasek and Fleury. - Slump Buster
Fleury is over rated, he was handcuffed to him |

Yeah, and I think that was the point. I think Bylsma would have another cup if he had even average goaltending during a couple of his runs. |

Fluery had a better year this year under Johnson than he ever did under Bylsma. Bylsma's system is not goalie friendly. It's similar to Ruff's where there end up being a lot of odd man rushes |

Bylsma's teams fell apart in the post season defensively. |

Some of that may be true but Fleury looked like he had never played before in some of those years. That was probably the worst playoff goaltending that I've seen in my 30+ years of watching hockey. |

I think in every sport there are guys who just fall apart once the playoff hits. I remeber alwasy being a Astros fan growing up and their hitters just couldnt hit one they hit the post season.
Think once you put Fluery up against good teams every night he has difficulty with them. But id also think that Blysma would have learned to change up the style a it. |
