only makes sense if both of: 1) he thinks he can drop down a few spots, grab his guy; and 2) he believes there will be some hidden gems in rounds 2 and 3 that he needs some extra picks for.

Ya I assume if they do trade down they honestly believe they're picking the better player and in that case I'll just have to cross my fingers. If it backfired I'd just add it to the list of ridiculous things this team has done over the years. Par for the course.

If the Leafs are high on Barzal/Provrov, may as well trade down a few picks... even if those guys don't make it, it means someone like Marner or Hanafin might still be available, and we'll have some extra assets to go with it.


Barzal is definitely an interesting prospect too... and some see Provrov on the same level as Hanafin.
