Completely unrelated note. Sounds like Nash is a goner and they want to shred Cap. Ennis, pick 21, pick 31 and prospect. - ImNoTroll

Not saying Eichel is not a very good player. Saying, because we have a truly generational player in McDavid, Eichel has been able to avoid the more realistic comparisons with Strome and Marner. - spatso
yeah no, you're smarter than every single scout and GM in the league, he for sure only compares to Strome and Marner and not to McDavid. You should be the head of central scouting, because clearly you're the most knowledgeable source in knowing who's a generational talent. |

I think it is laughable that anyone, even good naturedly, offers up the idea that Eichel is a better choice than McDavid. Belly laughable.
If McDavid were not in the draft, we would be speculating about a true comparison that has some real meaning. Do you take Eichel ahead of Strome or Marner? McDavid has pushed down the buzz on team mate Strome (#1 in OHL scorning) and Marner (#2).
I think Marner is going to win an NHL scoring title. He has a magic stick and incredible hockey IQ. This is the guy Buffalo needs to consider with the #2 pick.
Eichel is the old man of this draft. Happens every year. Guys get great reviews early on, but scouts know he is an early birthday and was only a couple of weeks out in qualifying for last year's draft. Eichel is this year's Sean Couturier. A good player that has an age and size advantage coming through the ranks. Being a 1/2 year older than the other guy is huge when your 16. - spatso

This post was laughable. Look at his points as a freshman compared to Toews and Kessel. Or listen to Button's interview on wgr yesterday. Sounding like someone is a bit envious, eh? - turbo044
It's Toronto, of course they're envious.
They're stuck with their second tier pick and think Phil the Thrill will net them 5th overall and Skinner lololol
Let's not forget about the guy who offered Phaneuf gardiner and 4th OA for McDavid. Fanbase full of (frank)ing goofballs. |

[quote=Jeropotato]There's a chance , for sure.....but some of you guys have gone from hoping that's the case to being convinced that Eichel> McDavid.
Long overdue and redundant, but has McDavid played in any competitions yet against men? Scoring buckets of goals against 17 year-olds is one thing, but you also have to give props to the second-most prolific college freshman hockey player ever....one who has already held his own against Malkin and Ovechkin in competition. |

They're both very good and very different talents. McDavid is ranked as the better prospect but I think it's fair to even consider that Eichel may end up being the better overall asset. It's possible. |

I give him plenty of props......but if you asked 100 of the most respected scouts who the best prospect is in the draft, you will get 1 answer , 100 times. |

It certainly is....but it seems unlikely. However some might argue that Gretzky never won a Stanley without Messier, yet Messier won 2 without Wayne. I would listen to arguements that in the Early 90's, Messier had more value to a team than Wayne.....but I will never agree than Messier was ever the better Hockey player. |

This is not accurate. McDavid is the clear-cut #1. Eichel is the clear-cut #2. Nobody else in this draft comes close to either of them. If the Sabres were to draft either Marner or Strome, they don't come anywhere near a championship within the next decade. That's not to say that drafting Eichel makes them anywhere near a lock for a Cup, but you need a player of that caliber to win one. Strome and Marner aren't that. Those are pieces you build with, not build around. |

It doesn't matter anyway. Oilers will win cups with McDavid, Sabres will win with Eichel. They are the 2 most dominating prospects In 10 years.
Both teams have a ridiculous amount of young talent |

To be fair, any one of us could be the head of Central Scouting. I don't think there is a more bogus operation in all of professional sports that isn't affiliated with a specific team.
Btw, I believe it was Central Scouting that put Strome ahead of Eichel for a very brief period. |

Central is pretty close, if you review their lists using the power of hindsight. Some busts, some surprises, just like the draft, but it's pretty good. |

Good post Jero. I'm excited for the new rivalry. Not necessarily Oilers vs Sabres, more like McDavid vs Eichel and the years of discussion. I'm sick and tired of Crosby vs Ovi. |

I dunno about that ... grabbing one of those guys might give us a higher chance at Matthews....
That said, I don't condone drafting anyone but Eichel, like I need to even say it. |

First of all, you are giving up TOO MUCH.
Second of all, he will be no good when we are ready to win.
Third of all, he is a playoffs bust.
This is off course my opinion. - Sabresfan88

If theRe is 1 minute left, and I can have a team up by a goal, I'd take Cody Mccormick over Tavares. Its a dumb example. The team up with only a minute left is going to win more 99% of the time. - ImNoTroll

Eichel a great distraction as Reinhart gets to work this offseason. They say nobody ever drowned in their own sweat. Summer of Sam. - homiedclown
Clown are you going to lead the charge this summer in pro-Reinhart like Irish's brigade for Cally?
I'm with you on the Reinhart side btw. |

I don't even know how to respond to this.. yet if you guys are drafting him you would say. The next Wayne Gretzky or
Next you're going to tell me that Nathan MacKinnon is better then him |
