It truly is the golden age to be a Hawk fan. - Ogilthorpe2
Ya know...if this Blackhawk renaissance reaches a full decade I just might lose all my cynicism.
Who am I kidding...it'll always be a losing streak away. |

I'm done doubting these guys. Two years ago I would have been going crazy by the end of the 2nd period the other night. This year, I knew they were going to win. I could feel it. |

Ok, maybe I missed the point to a certain extent as I've posted before I'd like Desi back and think like you mentioned, Johns and possibly Baun could provide some next year...which I don't have a problem with and would contend most don't.
After the last few seasons though I thought the idea that them wilting at any point in the season (regular and post) because of this had kind of been put to rest. - HawkintheD
Yep, looks like you did miss the point... exactly the same one that TexasFlood was making.
As this core gets older... and with rival teams employing cheap players like Stoner, Backes, Reaves, Ott et al... I think a few players who can dish some back and stand up and fight occasionally in the regular season will still be necessary.
I agree those players look like candidates. Next year's team may look a little more the 10 version. |

Meh. I won't be happy til they've eclipsed the Habs Cup total. - HawkintheD
Sounds like a grand plan...but if they accomplish it, I won't be alive to see it.
But watching quality puck till my last breath would be a good thing. |

It's not that I doubt the Hawks...it's the other guys I worry about.
Hockey can be weird as you know, and the puck doesn't always bounce your way.
If only the Hawks had a decent goaler...they'd never lose. |

Fair enough but see the last part of mine.
While it's a nice to have and think they will have a bit more of it next year anyway, the fact is they are in the Cup this year again, so I wouldn't call it a need to have.
Never said I was opposed to these kind of players but the two of you are placing more importance on it than I would. |

I thought we were talking about the need for tougher players to offset cheaper teams in the regular season. Pissants must be regulated you know.
Nice gang attack on TexasFlood though tonight. Do you guys get a treat when you go back to the other thread? |

I see it as more of a need as the key players get older. Don't think teams like the Blues and Ducks won't be running them closer to the playoffs to wear them down or hurt them.
I do admit though this team is as tough as they come and there is no room for it anymore in the playoffs. That Nucks/Flames series had it and it was a mess. |

I agree with you and I would luv to see #10 retire as a hawk. But counting heads, contracts, production and age...he is a prime candidate to go given the cap situation the hawks face. The other factor is they have a deeper well at forward than defense.
His production has slipped since his huge push for the olympic team the 1st half of last year. Since then in 105 reg season gmes: 25 goals and 50 assists. He was just short of a pt/gm now he is at .70 pt per game. And in those 105 gmes he only has 1 mutli-goal game. His production this playoff is about the same as last year. Lets be honest everyone talks about how streaky Sharp is..well the fact is he has not had a hot streak in over 140 gmes (incl playoffs) and has a number of scoring droughts. No goals in 9 gmes currently; yet he did have a nice series vs the wild.
The hawks just can't afford him with those $$ and production. A big contract has to go: either sharp or CC or both. Maybe its to obvious and it won't happen but I don't know where else Stanbow gets the savings to keep Saad and Kruger and get 22-23 players next year. - bogiedoc
If I was Mike Babcock who I'm not, I would strip the C off Dion Phaneuf, ask Shanahan to go out and get Sharp for the Leafs, give the Hawks a decent draft pick and a minor league prospect in return and make Sharp the Captain of the team. Sharp's job then becomes representing one of the league's 4 most important cornerstone franchises in a professional manner, straightening out the dressing room and loser idiots like Kessel, Nazem Khadri, Phaneuf etc. and work in developing their kids like he is doing with TT.
Sharp obviously would agree to waive his no trade because he becomes one of the NHL's most visible players on a nationally followed team with endorsement opportunities coming out of his ying-yang. He might not win another Stanley Cup but the exposure and post hockey career opportunities would be massive for him.
Sure, the Hawks don't have the cap room to keep him, but he has value in the league. |

So I disagreed with him, and because others also disagreed and did so in a more animated fashion than I...that somehow means that I instigated a "gang up"?
Ok.
Blacklistville Members? There you go with the name calling again. What does that even mean? I certainly don't appreciate the unsolicited personal attacks and insinuation that I have done anything but attempt to talk hockey here tonight.
P.S. For the record, my name's not John |

Right on Tred. Flood wasn't trying to stir up anything with a few posts prior.
Read into it what you want but the context and intent is there. Here's a novel thought. If you don't want people to call you on something, don't call them out in the first place.
That way nothing happens instead of you writing some revisionist crap and crying foul after the fact. |

I think I will put a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue in the car and head down to the ACC and sit down with Babcock and tell him what to do. If he asks for Toews too I will smash the bottle over his head. |
